I will be looking into starting up a class action lawsuit against Hartz if anyone cares to join. I will update as soon as I find something out. If, by chance, 1 has already been started… someone PLEASE let me know how to go about taking part. I have lost 2 kittens and a pomeranian so far, because of hartz products!!! They need to be shut down!!!
I called Hartz today to find out how to help my cat after a bad reaction from their flea drops. While on hold for 10 minutes I clicked on a couple other results from the google search to get their number. One landed me here. The lady at Hartz asked me a million questions and then swore it wasn’t their product. So I asked about all the other people saying they have had similar problems. She blew me off and told me cheerfully to take my cat to a vet. I said I think I better call an attorney instead. She got very cheerful and told me to have a nice day. Really? My cat is sick, I don’t get to have a nice day. Has anyone contact an attorney for a class action lawsuit? I am writing Walmart today to beg them to take this product off the market. I hope others will as well.
I don’t have a personal story, but I just wanted to say that I am an RVT and have worked in a clinic for 9 years, I have seen neurological, skin and behavior reactions to these cheap flea products, some have resulted in death and some in permanent damage. There have been too many to count, it’s a tragedy that these products are on the market and so easy to buy. Something must be done. This page is a great start.
I represent attorneys in a suburb of Memphis, TN that are currently seeking pet owners who have had their pets hurt and/or killed by products manufactured by Hartz. At my request, the moderator previously posted to this site information regarding my attorneys interest in pursuing this matter. (link: http://www.hartzvictims.org/2010/04/30/seeking-clients-for-class-action-suit-in-tennessee/ )
We are in the stages now of signing those people who are interested in pursuing a consumer protection class action civil lawsuit against Hartz. If you are interested in finding our more information, please contact me at: [email protected] or [email protected]; we cannot contact you directly unless you have posted your contact information publicly.
It is not necessary for you to be a resident of Memphis, or of Tennessee to be included in this class action lawsuit.
You must contact us as soon as possible to be included in the initial stages of the suit. Many posters here have stressed interest in pursuing this class action suit and that is why my attorneys are using this site to reach the public about filing just such a lawsuit.
To avoid spamming this site, I will work to keep the moderator(s) informed of the progress of any suit that is filed and at his/her/their discretion may update this site with that information.
I purchased Sergeant’s Gold Flea & Tick Squeeze-On treatment for my 8 year old dog from my local Wal-Mart. I have been using a flea treatment monthly since he was six months old. However, this was my first purchase of Sergeant’s and it will be my last of ANY Sergeant’s products!
In less than 2 hours of applying this stuff, Bear became very restless and agitated. He was jumping on and off everything, trying to hide behind the couch and rubbing against everything. While checking him, I noticed that the muscles in his back legs were trembling. I knew he was fine before I used the treatment so I thought it might be a reaction. I got a warm wet rag and started washing the stuff off his back.
When my husband got home from work, he noticed that Bear was not acting normal. By this time Bear was starting to whimper and cry and I knew we had a problem and he needed to get checked by the vet.
The vet said his eyes were very dilated and he was having a reaction to the Sergeant’s Gold. They bathed him in Dawn dishsoap and gave him a muscle relaxer to help with the twitching muscles. Within a half hour, Bear was calmer. He still had a very restless night. It was almost 24 hours before he was resting comfortably again. Bear is doing fine but still on muscle relaxers for a couple more days. I am so thankful that we got treatment for him so quickly.
I called Wal-Mart on Thursday, Nov. 6th, 08 and spoke to the manager. He was very kind and apologized for the problem. I told him that after reading the entries on this site, this product was dangerous to animals. He said he would notify his “district” buyer. I also, told him to check this site out and read the comments himself. I said that since Wal-Mart had pulled the food when there were problems that they would want to know about this product too.
Please do not give your pet this stuff, it will make them very sick and possible kill them. If you have a blog, pass the word around. This is really a bad product. If I had read this site first, I would have never bought this stuff!
On Sept 15,2008 I treated My cat with Hartz Flea drops. Today now thw 16th we arrived home to find our cat outside shaking. We brought her in the house as it was cold out side. My wife noticed something was wrong with the cat.
We thought she might have gotten into some garbage or ate a mouse or rat that was poisined. We then remembered we treated her with the drops. She went into a violent siezure and was convulsing harshly. I found the package and immediatley looked up the information on permethrin.
I called hartz and when I did I got a machine that asked me to press 1 for customer service and 2 for emergency help. I pressed option 2 only to get a answering machine that said all agents were busy and to call back later and it hung up. I called back immediatley and pressed option 1 talked to a rep who transfered me to a emergency care consultant for hartz. He was the most un caring person in the world I was asking if there was any combatant for the permethrin he said ” No sir there is nothing to combat it” and then he sat on the line and was going to leave it at that. Then I asked him how long it was going to be in her system and he said well it can be up to 72 hours. He did not offer and help nor support to me. I told the basterds this was not over and they would be hearing from me and a lawyer.
I ask you to please contact me at [email protected] with the information of your horror story and that you provide me with your name and a address and telephone number where yoyu can be reached by a attorney of law and begin a class action suit against this company for the lack of care and knowledge about this deadly flea medication. Your animal can die from this just being around another animal treated with this cocktail of death.
I am in tears for all of you that have suffered through this. And one more thing there is no documented studies on how to treat this overdose. But do not let your vet use charcoal as this is topical and not ingested this will result in dehydration of your animal and put them in even more danger. Bath your animal with soap 3 times to ensure you have got all of it off and rinse with alot of luke warm water hot water will open the skins pores so do not use HOT water.
This company seems to have no concern or care what they are doing lets put them in thier place and make them care. This medication is highly toxic and needs to be looked into further before more animals die.

I also bought this product and put it on 2 of 3 chihuahuas……..one is pregnant. They both started panting, drooling, scratching and could not sleep, it seamed as if they were having convulsions. It has been 2 days and doses of meds later and they are still having problems. Their skin is scorched. If anyone needs help to take these people down or you have a lawsuit, I will be more than happy to help. They are still selling this product even after all of the problems and complaints they have had. They really care about our pets don’t they!!! Thank you, you can email me at [email protected]
