We have used Hartz on our cat for a month now with no ill effects, and the fleas are going away. Let me also say I do not work for Hartz. I stumbled across this site looking for information to use a flea bomb.
It is scary the number of people reporting problems with this product and it is true a problem probably exists. But how many people followed the instructions? I looked at the terrible picture of the cat with the burn on his neck. Did the owner put a little bit on his neck wait to see if he had a reaction or just squeeze out the whole bottle? If he waited a day that cat would not have suffered the way he did.
You can blame Hartz all you want, and as I said it seems they have a real problem, but I bet a good percentage of pet owners didn’t follow instructions. The picture of the cat being a good example. If Hartz sold a bad product they need to be sued and given fines, but irresponsible pet owners need to take responsibility for their actions.
My cat had seizures after putting the topical flea drops on her. She was vomiting, screaming, and twitching. My vet said this is the second cat he has had at his office this month with this problem after using Hartz Mountain products.
Yesterday I made the mistake of trusting a well known pet store to recomend a flea drop for my 3mo old kittin Cassy. Like most of you I had no idea that they could package and sell toxic, killer, chemicals as a pet product. Within an hour Cassy begain to cry. She ran to the bathroom vomiting and shooting diaria. I had red the box thank God so I imideatly bathed her and used baby shampoo to wash her. She kept crying though, never had I heard a cat sound like this… she just lay their lookin like she would die. I could not affod a vet but called many for advice looking for something to help. One place told me to bath her again using kitchen dish soap so I again bathed Cassy who was now limp and staring at me. Well I just held her for hours wraped in warm blankets or towls, changing them as needed to keep her dry. She is lucky, about 6hr later she stood up and ate a little food! It is a day later and she is acting normal, I just hope their are no unknown side effects she has that I have not noticed yet. I have resurced non stop since then, I found a pitition against Hartz co. Please look!! http://www.petitiononline.com/hartz/
My heart goes out to all of you.
I recently wrote an e-mail to Petco regarding the fact that they carry Hartz products. I was shocked at the response I received. It seems that they simply don’t care what happens as a result of the products that they sell. Please read below.
I very much like your web site and the wide variety of products you offer for pets. I just wanted to mention, though, that I am surprised that you offer Hartz products. When seeing Hartz products for sale by your company, it makes it very difficult for one to have confidence in the safety of other products that you sell. The Hartz products make it
appear that Petco isn’t giving much thought to the safety of our beloved companions. I saw a few nice toys, etc., that I was going to order, and
figured they were safe since you were selling them. Then, I saw the Hartz products and decided that there is a good chance that these toys
could be dangerous as well, as it appears the company is not very selective in the products they offer. Consumers really need to have
confidence that you care for the wellbeing of their pets. Thank you.

I put Hartz drops on all our cats over 1yr ago, within 2 days 1 real young cat died, and our 9yr old cat had the spasm syptoms everyone is talking about. She will NEVER be normal! Her pupils are out of focus,no balance at all, and still has the twitchy head. I HATE you for this HARTZ!!!
My cat had a terrible reaction to a similar product called Front-line. Our vet suggested it to us and sold it to us. My cats first symptoms were very subtle, she was sluggish and unactive. She became gradually worse and within two days could barely control her hind legs. We rushed her to the vet, who ran test after expensive test, and made no diagnosis. Time passed and my cat began to regain control of her hind legs, each day she improved. Then suddenly out of nowhere, she got worse than ever, when she walked she stumbled to and fro like a drunk person, unable to control her legs, when she tried to jump short distances she would crash to the floor unable to right herself. This reoccurance coincided with a reapplication of Frontline, and the emergency pet clinic in our town confirmed that it was a reaction to the flea drops we used on our cat. I hope the word gets out about these harmful products, it is a terrible thing when vet’s don’t even know about the potential damage they can cause.
November 5 we decided that it was time to fight the fleas in our house, as many of you have done. We also went to WalMart like many others due to our money situation as well. Hartz products have been a product that my parents had used and we decided since it was good for them why not us. Maggie May is a beautiful cat that we had since she was born, as we have the mother and father and Maggie decided she never wanted to leave home. We gave them all the drops Fizben, Jinx, Spook and Maggie May, at ten p.m. Then this morning we went to let them out of their bedroom and we found Maggie May in grand mal seizures. Rushed her to the vet right away and found out from our Vet this was her fifth cat this week. They had all been poisoned and two died. Maggie May was given the charcoal slurply and a flushing.
She so far has recovered but we unsure of the total outcome of her brain function and bladder reaction. She will have a head twitching for the rest of her life.
What sickens me is reading this page and finding out that Hartz a reputable company at one time allows this poison to be out their killing our pets (children). Maggie May is not just a pet she is Family and I believe a lawsuit and a petition should be started and a full ban on their products and stores that sell them.
Hartz was their when I was a kid what happen to them?
I live in Canada and need all those that can help me do so.
Please e-mail at
and even if you snail mail me that will help as I plan on forwarding it to Hartz company.

My cat died recently after using Sergeants Pretect Flea drops. I realize that this is a Site for victims of Hartz products but was hoping to find some support here since I cannot find a Sergeants vicitms site. If anyone has had a problem with the sergeants products could you please let me know?My email is [email protected]
Do not use Sergents Flea Drops under any circumstance. I lost my 10 year best friend to this companys profits. It was Saturday morning and my 4 children came into my room histarically crying saying Lexus is dead. I said what do you mean she is dead. I just woke up and thought they must have been mistaken. I rushed into the room where she was and she was sooo sadly dead with rigamortis. Her beautiful soal was gone. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Was it my negligence, was it the flea stuff, was it that she had too many fleas and they got the best of her. The vet comfirmed that it was the toxisity of the flea drops. How could a company happily profit off the loss of animals. You know that they are aware of this problem. There are people all across the internet saying it. I was unaware of this problem and unfortunately my beautiful friend payed for it. We all need to stand up for a class action lawsuit!
