Hartz UltraGuard Plus ridworm Tablets

We recently dewormed a litter of.shihtzu puppies with the Hartz ultraguard ridworm tablets. we dewormed 3 times over a 3.week.period as per the directions on the box. each time we.wormed the pups they passed a few worms in thier.stool and seemed to be fine afterwards but the last.time we wormed them one of the pups became violently.ill almost immediately. she began to vomit. she had diarhea and became listless and weak. not thinking that the wormer was to blame we assumed she had.parvovirus. and were.quite.panicky. we discovered afterwards.that the symptoms.she.was.experiancing.was.a reaction to the main ingredient in the wormer. a drug.called piperazine citrate. piperazine is commonly. used to deworm pigs and cattle. and is toxic to dogs it causes severe diarhea vomiting. siezures and in most cases death. there is nothing a vet can do other than give the dog charcoal and hope for the best. we lost the puppy and discovered that it didnt even get rid of the worms after 3 treatments our pups were infested with roundworm.

Hartz Ultraguard drops

I wish I’d seen this site before I applied the flea-tick drops to my dog. She started going crazy and tried to bite her fur off. I searched the internet for info on Hartz products and found this site. I could not believe the stories here (and how true they must be). I also can’t believe Hartz continues to sell it’s products. I spent a couple hours hosing her down and she seems to be back to normal. Hope all is well with the other pets.

I have an Urgent question:

I have a question. My male 5 month old kitten is vomiting, not eating and has diarrhea. Could this be due to the fact that I put the 3 in 1 flea collar on him? Nothing else is wrong.

My Nightmare…

A few days ago I posted my story. Little did I know it was going to take a turn for the worse. We came home from the vet hoping he got Barleys swelling under control. Her ears went down a little but her entire body was still swelled up. Thursday morning she did not want to eat or drink anything. She also could barely walk. Barley just laid around the house all morning and when she would try to get up she was in pain and would always hold one of her legs up like she couldn’t feel it. We took her back to the vet and they’re was nothing he could do there and sent us to the animal hospital. They hooked her up to an iv and did some blood work. Friday morning they called and said it looks like vasculitis but could not say for sure if it was the Hartz flea drops that caused this but it was more than likely. They said she was doing good but about six hours later we got another call. They said she swelled up worse and had no more of her wrinkles… We went to go visit her and I couldn’t believe how terrible she looked. She was just laying in the kennel and couldn’t move. She knew we were there with her and kept trying to lift her head to look at us. The hardest thing was when we would talk to her she would cry, not normal wimpering crying she actually had tears rolling down her face… She knew she wasn’t going to make it much longer. She fought as long as she could. Saturday morning around 5, we received a call saying she went into cardiac arrest and they were trying cpr to bring her back but it wasn’t working. We had to let her go… She was our best friend and we spoiled her as much as we could but she spoiled us back. She was seriously one of a kind. Everyone we know has heard our story with Hartz products and they’re getting the word out. I just wish I saw this site before I used this on my baby girl… Rest in Peace Barley, you were our everything and we miss you sooo much!

Why are they still able to sell this stuff??!?!?!

So my dog has been itching like crazy for the past month and chewing to where it was getting infected. We’ve taken her to the vet to get everything figured out. Shes gotten better but still is itching a lot. Yesterday I figured it might be because I haven’t given her any flea medication since November. I has the Hartz flea and tick drops so I used those. Instantly after putting it on Barley, she was running around the house like crazy with her tail sticking out. She finally started to calm down then ended up throwing up. I thought she was just had a stomach ache. Later on that night I noticed that she had a major rash on her stomach and the base of her tail. I thought she might of gotten bit by something since she was outside rolling around. This morning I came home from work and her ears are all swollen, along with her face, legs, and paws. The rash had gotten worse. We took her to the vet and I told him I put this stuff on her. He immediately knew she was having an allergic reaction to the Hartz. He gave her an injection which is making the swelling go down. I’m so glad we caught it in time. I don’t know what I would have done if something happened to her. I just wish I read all these storied before I used this on her.

I wish i knew about the bad bad HARTZ earlier…..

SKIP TO LAST PARAGRAPH FOR CONCLUSION

Last summer, I saw an abandoned kitten around my neighborhood…

Fed him for a week (and even tried playing with him) and I finally gained his trust… I was able to put him in a cage and brought him home…. He was full of fleas and ticks (otherwise very energetic and chatty).

I have other cats at home and I thought it would be a good idea to put ONLY ONE……. ONEEEEEEEE drop of Hartz Ticks & Fleas drops on the back of his neck……

Right after I’ve done that, he started to become VERY LETHARGIC… PAWS and GUMS BECAME VERY PALE AND COLD… COULD NOT SWALLOW food/liquid…

I panicked and brought him to the vet (not the one my other pets normally see as he was on vacation)… sadly.. the vet said there was nothing he could do (????)…

I did not give up after I went home… I fed milk + A/D from hills with a syringe and naively hoped that he would get better…

but no….. i spent the whole day staying by his side.. … and that night, all of a sudden when i was cuddling him… HE LOOKED ME IN THE EYE…BREATHED SO HARD THAT IT LOOKED LIKE HE WAS SUFFOCATING… N BREATHED ONE LAST BREATH…..

that’s how he died… in my arms…

till this date… i still cant stop myself from tearing whenever I think about this lovely kitten which I’ve named as Jamie… we could not spend a lot time together but the very very short time that we had together, I ‘ve already built a very strong bond with him…

I love you Jamie and you will ALWAYS ALWAYS be in my heart…

MORAL of the story: DO NOT USE HARTZ FLEA & TICKS PRODUCTS … and as an advice, DO SOME RESEARCH on ANY PET PRODUCT before you decide to administer it to your pets even if you vet says the product is totally safe….

Two cats die in less than one month

Both of my cats, Tasha & Beaux were healthy.  They had gotten fleas, Tasha’s was worse than Beaux’s.  My son gave her a flea bath and within 24 hrs.  she was gone. This was on January 3rd, 2012.  I didn’t know why.  About two and a half weeks later Beaux’s fleas were seriously intense.  My daughter-in-law has two other cats that live with us and said I use Hartz One Spot Flea drops on my cats I will put some on them all.  My Beaux died in less than 24 hrs. at the vets office.  He had seizures and went into respiratory failure on January 26th, 2012.  I did not make the connection until after he had passed.  My son used Hartz flea shampoo on Tasha.  We need to get this stuff off of the market before another animal dies.  I am broken hearted and angry at the same time.  This is a horrible travesty.

Do not ever, EVER use Hartz products on your pets

I am currently in college studying Veterinary Medicine. Hartz products are DANGEROUS. we specifically discussed that in class. They are known for making animals ill, and unfortunately–killing cats. Dogs can tolerate pesticides better than cats (even though it is dangerous for both). Harts flea and tick control products contain pesticides, Deadly for cats, dangerous for dogs. PERIOD. Hartz have many lawsuits against them, and they do need to be shut down. If you have any signs of adverse effects (which seems to always occur with EVERY Hartz products) discontinue use IMMEDIATELY. As a matter of fact, DO NOT USE IT AT ALL. Things that can occur are rash, itching, blisters, bumps, seizures, loss of appetite, fever, vomitting, etc. and even, unfortunately, death. If you need flea and tick control, for your pets sake, please use Frontline. It is the safest product, and Veterinareans number one choice for a reason.

2 family members; Gone!

We used a hartz spray on 2 of our beloved cats, Brady and Star.. now mind you we have 4 cats, but we only sprayed these 2, becuase they seemed to have gotten the case of the fleas, the worst.. In trying to help our animals.. we hurt them.. killed them.. NO, we didnt, HARTZ DID. We followed the directions on the bottle to a T.. both seemed to be doing okay, and about 3 days later i realized they were hiding.. which these 2, did not normally do.. so calling for them through out the house, we searched and looked for them, and when we finally found them, Brady looked AWFUL. W gave Brady a bath, using just reg. ivory soap.. and star we wiped down as much as we could. The reason we got these products, was because i Called the Emergency hospital, and the person on the other end basically laughed at me, and told me we had to take care of the fleas ourselves, becuase ” we don’t do stuff that miniscule here”… Well, 2 days later we rushed him to the Emergency Vets, because he was skin and bone, and was urinating on himself, and breathing very hard, he was nostalgic and was notn reacting to us at all.. and we had to put him down! 2 days after that I refused to go to the emergency hospital, and the vets had to put Star Down, becuase she was having the same exact symptoms. ! We are DEVASTATED! …WE FEEL RESPONSIBLE, HEART BROKEN, ASHAMED… I wish I had read the warnings before acting.. but i honestly thought we were helping them. We miss them very much and are still very upset since this was just 4 days ago, and one right after the other.., Oh, and after talking to a Hartz Rep, they said they had never heard of things like this happening, yet told us to send them our vet bills, and are sending us farms to fill out right away….
