large mix breed limping, coughing, vomiting and more.

I purchased Hartz Ultra Guard Pro for my large mixed breed dog, Ginger and my cats, Louie and Sophie last week on July 16, 2012. I know I didn’t apply it right away; I must have waited a couple of days or the weekend before applying this product but I noticed a day or two after applying it that Ginger was limping and seemed like she just did not feel good. She’s been very lethargic, intermittent coughing like kennel cough, vomited once, limping like she can hardly move, and she seems very unsteady on her feet, and it seemed as though she had lost her appetite although she was still eating but in small amounts. She is still drinking water, but  not as much as it seemed like she should be drinking. This evening I came upon this website Hartzvictims.org after doing a search online; plus I didn’t really start putting the pieces together until today while I was working from home (July 24). I thought she had sprained her ankle or something so I tried giving her an Advil tablet with food, but as soon as it wore off, she was back to limping really badly and even seemed unsteady in many ways almost like she was having hip problems or something. When I first did my search online with her symptoms (coughing, limping, unsteadiness, vomiting, etc) it looked like she might have been poisoned. Tonight, July 24 after researching the Hartz Ultra Guard Pro product that I purchased, I was SHOCKED to read that so many other people had experienced the same or similar issues with their animals. I can’t believe they run commercials for this product on TV but the first red flag for me should have been what I read on the back of the box, “Environmental Hazards: This product is toxic to fish.” Immediately I took my dog outside and did exactly what Hartzvictims.org recommended which was washing her with Dawn where the product was applied. I scrubbed her twice because she has a really thick coat and it repels water like a Labradors coat.

This is unbelievable!!! I’ve been typing my post and literally I toweled dried her off about an hour ago. Ginger came to the back door and wanted to come back inside. As I was letting her in, I noticed she was not limping and she seemed to have perked up! …Also she just ate a whole bowl of dog food! I will never use their products EVER again!!! Clearly Ginger’s thick fur must have given her some protection against this awful product! I’ll have to wait and see how she is the rest of the week and determine if we should go to the Vet. I never imagined that anything could cause such an adverse reaction to an animal. And thank God I never applied it to my cats…I can only imagine the reaction they would have had since they are smaller animals. Hartz should be sued for their poisonous products!!

Hartz Ultra Guard Plus flea and tick collar and drops for cats is unsafe products.

As it is flea/tick season I went out and purchased two Hartz products which I thought would protect my pet. Unfortunately, rather than protecting it caused him harm. I arrived home from work on Friday and noticed chunks of white hair all over my apartment. I immediately found him and checked him out. To my surprise who would have thought that the Flea collar burned his hair off!!
Thank god, I immediately removed the collar off of him. I than returned the Hartz product back at the store which I purchased it from. The store personnel say that they have never had any other customers have this issue. I have called and left a detailed message with Hartz and Pet Value head office regarding the product and the damage it has caused. Some people may think its silly to be heart broken, but I love my pet, my stomach is truly turned and i feel so bad for him. He probably thinks I put that darn thing on him to punish him…
In doing research on this product over the weekend there been tons of customers who have had the same thing happen to them going back to 2000. In addition, my vet says that they have had many cases come in regarding Hartz Flea/tick products burning the hair and skin on cats and dogs. I truly cant believe that this product could still be on the shelves or the active chemical is not banned yet. Many of the pet owners stated that Hartz continuously places the blame on the owners for improper use of the product. Very Sad…..Isn’t there something we can do to get this known chemical banned? Is anyone looking out for us and our pets?

2 family members; Gone!

We used a hartz spray on 2 of our beloved cats, Brady and Star.. now mind you we have 4 cats, but we only sprayed these 2, becuase they seemed to have gotten the case of the fleas, the worst.. In trying to help our animals.. we hurt them.. killed them.. NO, we didnt, HARTZ DID. We followed the directions on the bottle to a T.. both seemed to be doing okay, and about 3 days later i realized they were hiding.. which these 2, did not normally do.. so calling for them through out the house, we searched and looked for them, and when we finally found them, Brady looked AWFUL. W gave Brady a bath, using just reg. ivory soap.. and star we wiped down as much as we could. The reason we got these products, was because i Called the Emergency hospital, and the person on the other end basically laughed at me, and told me we had to take care of the fleas ourselves, becuase ” we don’t do stuff that miniscule here”… Well, 2 days later we rushed him to the Emergency Vets, because he was skin and bone, and was urinating on himself, and breathing very hard, he was nostalgic and was notn reacting to us at all.. and we had to put him down! 2 days after that I refused to go to the emergency hospital, and the vets had to put Star Down, becuase she was having the same exact symptoms. ! We are DEVASTATED! …WE FEEL RESPONSIBLE, HEART BROKEN, ASHAMED… I wish I had read the warnings before acting.. but i honestly thought we were helping them. We miss them very much and are still very upset since this was just 4 days ago, and one right after the other.., Oh, and after talking to a Hartz Rep, they said they had never heard of things like this happening, yet told us to send them our vet bills, and are sending us farms to fill out right away….

New Jersey Attorney Gray Graifman Receives Favorable Decisions in Spot-On Pesticide Class Actions

New Jersey Attorney Gray Graifman Receives

Favorable Decisions in Spot-On Pesticide

Class Actions

July 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ — Plaintiff’s class action lawyer Gary S. Graifman, a partner with the firm Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, was part of a team of plaintiffs’ counsel who secured favorable decisions in four class actions involving multiple manufacturers of spot-on flea and tick treatments for pets, which were alleged to have caused adverse reactions to dogs and cats, ranging from minor to severe reactions, including death. The defendants had moved to dismiss the cases. The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey granted these motions in part and denied them in part.

The lawsuits involved multiple spot-on (e.g., applied directly to spots on a pet’s body) flea and tick treatment products used on dogs and cats. Manufacturers of these products named in the lawsuits included: Merial Limited, Farnam Companies, Wellmark International, Inc., Hartz Mountain Corporation, Sergeant’s Pet Care Products, Inc., Summit VetPharm, LLC, and Bayer Healthcare, LLC. These products contained pesticides such as Finopril, Methoprene, Permethrin, Pyriproxyfen, Etofenprox and/or Pyrethrin.

In April 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that there was a noticeable increase in the number of adverse pet reactions involving the spot on pesticides. The plaintiffs involved in the class actions alleged that the pesticides caused skin irritation, neurological problems/seizure-like symptoms, lethargy, weight loss and even death to their pets.

The class action lawsuits centered around four causes of action:

1. Breach of express warranty

2. Breach of implied warranty of merchantability

3. Unjust enrichment

4. Violation of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act

In three of the four class actions, the court granted defendant’s motion to dismiss counts two, three and four above because they were subsumed under the New Jersey Products Liability Act (NJPLA). However, the court allowed the plaintiff the opportunity to amend the complaint in order to plead a product liability cause of action under the NJPLA. In the case against Farnam, only the unjust enrichment count was dismissed.

By only partially granting the defendants’ motions to dismiss, the court has allowed the putative class actions to go forward. The plaintiffs’ claims involving breach of express warranty were allowed to proceed in the litigation. This is a victory for the named plaintiffs in these cases as well as the class of people who purchased the dangerous products and whose pets were injured by them.

It took her three days to get back to normal do to herconditon getting really bad after putting it on her next and rinsing it off. My vet bill should be paid by hartz which was 61.00.

My 1 1/2 Year old Shih-Tzu

I was givin my dog Tuzo a bath on may 30th with his regular Hartz Ultra Guard shampoo but he just rubbed one of his paws against his eyes and today he’s almost blind!!! He can’t open his eyes! I even had to take hime to the vet last night at around 12:00 a.m. but he still can’t see a single thing. They told me that he got an infection because of the shampoo. I’m not O.K with Hartz selling any of their products. I think that should be considerd animal abuse. The government shoul do something about it. I would and am.

Hartz Flea and Tick made my YorkiPoo sick !!!

Someone please help me !!! I had my dog groomed for the summer on this past Thursday May 19th 2011.  With his fresh shave down for the summer we notice he had picked up some fleas which is possible because we spend a lot of time outside. On Thursday my dog was fine acting normally.  On thursday on my way home from work I stopped and picked up some Hartz Flea and Tick shampoo from my local walmart and some Hartz flea and tick topical drops for him. I came home and gave him a fresh bath and added the drops once He dried off. Thinking Hartz is a good trusted brand to use on your animal I had no worries. I WAS WRONG !!!!. the next day when I woke up for work he was shaking and trembling and to to top it off the fleas and the eggs were all still there. and now he is not able to stand and will not eat or drink.  I am so hurt and upset as my dog will not even bark anymore.  I finally called a friend who also has a dog and she told me to go quickly to my local walmart and buy a bottle of dawn liquid detergent. Needless to say I ran to to walmart and back home to give him a bath. I scrubbed, scrubbed him and made sure i used lots and lots of water on his body. After his bath every flea and it’s eggs were gone. I mean no sign he ever had fleas on him..   However I dont know what to do to help him now. someone please let me know how to help him if I have time.

sergents is killing my family today.

My wife applied the flea poison to both our cats and our dog last night. At 2 am our cats were shaking and the dogs throwing up. She just called me at work and after $700 at the vet trying to save the cats, she is having them put down. We may lose our dog as well. I just found this site and I am amazed these product are on the market, and don’t have huge gigantic warning labels. I cannot believe in 24 hours of trying to help our pets of mild fleas, they are dead and dying. This is truly incredible. I cannot believe that some pet loving lawyer has not taken this case on??? I am going to send them my vet bill. Bastards.
