A couple nights ago, our beloved cat Iggy (whom I’ve had for 13 years) SUFFERED a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE death. She has always been a thin, young acting cat who never seemed to age. She’s an indoor cat, but recently developed a flea problem that spread throughout our house. Due to our economic situation, instead of going to the vet and getting Advantage like we usually do, I bought Hartz Ultra Guard flea & tick drops at Walmart. We had put the drops on her a couple days prior. We noticed she was leaving clumps of hair around the house, that her water intake increased, she wasn’t eating and she had vomited clear mucus. Since she has had a sensitive stomach her whole life, is persnickety, and is often picky about eating, we didn’t think a lot of it right away. My husband just thought she’s getting old, and I figured she was mad at us for putting the medicine on her and was refusing to clean herself. Two days later, she was fine in the morning, rubbing up against my husband for affection. He went to bed that night while I was in the office working, and he heard her gasping for air from under the bed. He found her laying on her side, struggling to breath. When he pulled her from under the bed, she was gasping for air, vomiting dark green bile, defacating, and jerking around. The stuff coming out of her was GREEN!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE. It happened so fast, that all he could do was stroke her and comfort her while she died in his arms and tell her it was ok to go, because he knew she was in excruciating pain. He buried her under a tree the next morning while I watched from the kitchen window, crying.

He was sure that her liver failed due to old age. I wasn’t convinced, and thought it seemed like she was poisoned and asked my husband if he thought the Hartz flea drops did it. He assured me it was just old age, but I was thinking he was just telling me that to keep me from feeling I poisoned my cat to death. I haven’t been able to let it go the past 2 days, playing everything over and over in my mind. So, I just started researching liver & kidney failure in cats. Didn’t seem like she fit the traditional. Then I did a Google search on “Hartz” and immediately found your website.

Needless to say I am ENRAGED to find out that Hartz is what probably killed Iggy!!!!!!! I just called my husband, and he is shocked as well. How can that company be ALLOWED TO STAY IN BUSINESS WITH SOOOOOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE SAYING THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????? It’s like living in an episode of the Twilight Zone! It completely DOESN’T MAKE SENSE that they have been allowed to continue in business!!!! Furthermore, I’ve been a pet owner most of my like. WHY HAVEN’T I EVER HEARD ANY OF THESE REPORTS????? WHY AREN’T THERE HUGE NEON SIGNS POSTED IN VETS’ OFFICES if they are all saying “I hope you didn’t put Hartz on your pet!”?????

THIS IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something has GOT TO BE DONE to put them out of business

Thank you for providing a means for allowing me to vent, so my healing can begin. Thank you also for creating this website as a way to help stop this horrific cruelty, torture, and murder of innocent animals and our beloved family members (our pets).

This story was sent to me via email today:

After noticing fleas on my one-year old Shih-Tzu, Prince William, I bought Hartz Ultra Guard Flea and tick drops. I parted the hair and applied it down his back. That was on Saturday May 17th. By Sunday, William was acting different, but I thought it was because we had a visitor, and he doesn’t like to share his attention. My son gave him a bath and after the bath, Prince William collapsed on the floor and began to loose control of his bowels. I rushed him to the vet and he was severely dehydrated, he had blood in his stool and urine. The doctor ran tests and told me that she suspected toxins in his system, but at the time I couldn’t think of anything that would have caused that. She asked me about the bath he took and decided that maybe he drank some of his bathwater and there-in laid the problem. He was released the next day, but was unexplainably irritated. He would not allow any touches on his back or sides. I had to lift him from his stomach. The next couple of days I noticed bleeding from his neck and took him back to the hospital. They shaved his hair in order to clean the sore and noticed that his back had third degree burns from his neck down his back. At that time they asked me what I had poured on Prince William as if I had mistreated him. I told them the only thing we put on him besides Hartz shampoo, was the Ultra Guard flea and tick drops. He is currently being treated for his burns, and it’s getting very costly, but more importantly, he has been in pain. He has not been my playful Willie in almost two weeks. The hair on his back will possibly never grow back. The worst is that the vet says he has a long, uphill battle ahead of him, and it all started with Hartz UltraGuard flea and tick drops.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. IT MADE MY CAT VERY ILL. we gave it to him 9 days ago and he is still sick. This product has synthetic pyrethrins in it which are very toxic to cats. Not all cats will get sick from it but too many have!! I have been watching my normally very active and happy 3 year old cat be extremely lethargic now for 9 days, he can barely walk. It started the night we gave him the Bio-Spot. He had a very high fever by the next day and was tremoring. Has has been to the vet twice and spent a night in the ER. He is still very lethargic and still having trouble walking. Thank god he is improving and it looks like he will be okay. But no one should go through this. So many people have lost their pets already to this product and others like it. The EPA needs to be alerted by everyone who has had a pet get sick from this stuff so it gets taken off of the market.

5-14-2008: Today, as my daughter was brushing our long-haired Siamese cat (named Romeow), she found fleas with bite sores on his head and neck. She came to me pleading I do something for him to stop his agony.

Every year, I purchase flea collars for our family pets (consisting of 2 dogs and 1 cat). This year, I had purchased all natural and organic collars from Mountainroseherbs.com, but was still in the process of waiting for the shipments arrival when I made a HUGE mistake.

I had my daughter run to Target and buy some Neosporin and some kind of flea treatment for our cat. She came home with Hartz OneSpot Flea Egg and Larvae Treatment for Cats and Kittens.

Romeow had bloody sore spots above his eyes and in and behind his ears, so the first thing we did was put a dab of Neosporin on each of those sores. We then applied the contents of one full tube of the Hartz treatment between Romeow ‘s shoulder blades.

He seemed content at first, but within an hour, he began howling a horrific cry (if you ‘ve ever owned a Siamese, you know what I mean). As I went to check on him, I found him hunched over in a corner of my daughters bedroom. There were piles of vomit surrounding him.

Romeow is a very large cat. He weighs 22 lbs., has asthma (treated by our vet with Prednisone), and has never been fed anything but Iams dry cat food (the most recent being Iams Healthy Naturals). Knowing Siamese can have allergic reactions or sensitivities to certain foods, we ‘ve always been consistant about his diet.

So, all this vomiting he was doing surprised us. It was obvious to me he was very stressed. His ears were back, he had a glare in his eyes, his howls were deep growls, and he did not want to be approached. Totally out of character for him!

I did a quick Google search to see if vomiting was a symptom of this Hartz treatment, when I came across this website. I could not believe the horror stories I read about this particular product!

I bathed Romeow with an unscented castile liquid soap, then picked up the phone and immediately dialed my veternarians office. I was told by my vet that they would never recommend this product to anyone for use on their pets.

When I was asked if he was eating or drinking since all this vomiting occured, I replied, "no, he hasn ‘t, but that I was kind of force feeding him water by cupping my hands and placing the water to his mouth, making him swallow some."

Their major concern for him right now is dehydration.

I told my vet that since I bathed him, the vomiting had subsided for the past 20 minutes, and that he was wrapped in a warm blanket sleeping right now.

Their advice was for me to offer him some tuna, tuna water, chicken, chicken broth, or even baby food (such as liver meat). If he did not eat or drink, would vomit further, or show anymore signs of distress, I was to call back so he could be seen by the vet immediately.

Right now, as I write in this blog, I ‘m praying these poison toxins were all washed off in time, and our beloved Romeow will come out of this okay!

I am angry! Not only at myself for having applied this to our family friend, but at Hartz, for manufacturing a product that can be lethally toxic!

Please, Please, don ‘t EVER use this product! For the safety of your pets, use an all natural organic remedy instead! If only I had waited for the arrival of my shipment, which consisted of a 100% Herbal Rechargeable Flea Collar that is safe for cats and dogs, and manufactured by: Natural Animal Health Products, Inc.

After using Sergants flea and tick on her, she became really sick. I finally took her to the vet. After a couple of shots and a night there she got to come home today. The vet also showed me a cat that the owners had given the same stuff to last week. It had been there for a week. I only had a small bill but it could have been alot worse if I had not gotten her in there when I did. The vet called Sergants and told them about it. I also called them today and made an incident report. Everyone who has used this bad stuff needs to do also. It is really bad to have this on the market, and have lots more really sick dogs and cats out there. Please do not purchase this spend a little more an go to the vet for your flea and tick prevention.

I bought a Hartz Play ‘n Snack Triple Pack for my 8 month old French Bulldog puppy Rocco. This product included three items: 1. Chew n’ Clean Durable Nylon Bone 2. Snack Bursts – Beef & Bacon Flavored Treats3. Bacon Bone – Corn Starch Chew BoneHe is an active 8 month old puppy who likes to chew. I have had great luck with similar products, however the Hartz Chew n’ Clean “durable” nylon bone unfortunately was partially ingested by Rocco. He was perfectly fine and then Sunday morning after our am walk and breakfast he stopped playing and began to vomit. This continued all day and night Sunday. 1st thing Monday morning I called my vet and made an appointment. Rocco would not eat. He would drink water, but could not keep anything down.At the time I did not know what was causing the problem. The vet examined Rocco. He was not running a fever and she ruled out illness as a cause. She X-rayed Rocco but couldn’t see anything. However, she was very concerned that he had eaten a foreign object and there was an obstruction. To make a long and painful story short. Rocco had swallowed pieces of this “Durable” Nylon Bone which caused a very severe partial blockage. Basically the pieces were stuck in his stomach and being pulled into his small intestine to no avail because they were stuck. He had emergency surgery on Thursday which removed the pieces. Fortunately we caught it in time but it was very touch and go. He is still in the hospital and I HOPE to be alble to take him home Monday. I am posting this in hopes that other doggie parents will know that this product IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS it can severely injure your pet and even KILL! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THESE KINDS OF PRODUCTS TO YOUR PETS!!!

I have an 8 month old Chihuahua named Delilah. I noticed she was itching her knee area on her back leg and thought maybe she had recieved a flea from the backyard and since the weather has been getting warmer, it is the season to re-treat for fleas. I gave her SentryPro which is Sergent’s brand and not Hartz. The reason I want to post this here is because it is not just Hartz or Sergent’s brands that are lethal to some animals. After doing investigations on my own, it is all very bad and it can affect everyone, including your children. Within hours after giving my dog this treatment, her back leg began to jerk. It reminds me of a jack rabbit or a horse bucking someone off of them. The uncontrolled movements made me first think it was the flea bite irritating her or that the flea bit her again before dying. Unfortunately, I didn’t think much else of it until the symptoms got worse. My dog was laying with me, starting to jerk, and then the breathing issues came up. She started to have reverse sneezes. They were constant and I couldn’t stop them. I tried all the remedies on the internet that I could find at 3am and none of them worked. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out that this is not just reverse sneezing and fleas, it is an allergic reaction. I rushed my dog into the bathroom and began to scrub her down. Placing her in a towel, I held her close feeling the jerks and slight convulsions she had. Shaking of her head, kicking her feet, and the overwhelming need to gnaw on her feet and the soles of them. I rolled over on my bed to try and get us both more confortable and noticed that the bed was wet. Thinking at first she may have had an accident, I realized that it was on my pillow too where her face was laying prior to the bath. She was drooling! I could now see spit collected in her mouth that was dripping from both sides. I tried to give her water. The reverse sneezing stopped shortly after the bath but jerks and gnawing continued through the night. I was afraid to fall asleep wondering what I had done to her or if I caught it in time. I was angry because the back of the package only says that if SENSITIVITY OCCURS, WASH WITH MILD SOAP AND RINSE WITH LOTS OF WATER. Sensitivity? Isn’t sensitivity more like mild diarrhea? Maybe indigestion? Or a headache? I called the Consumer Affairs with the company today and they told me that they had a a caller just before mine that read things I had read on the internet and tried to discredit them by saying it was opinion. My problem was the box does not say, some side affects may include, seizures, vomiting, reverse sneezing (snorting), jerking, gnawing on limbs, and kidney failure..if this happens contact vet immediately. Product can be washed with DEGREASING Liquid Soap. If I had known these were the side affects, it would not have taken me so long to wash it off my dog. Instead they use sensitivity? I feel mis-informed. Betrayed. I bought this product at Petco. Where all the pets go. I thought that they would at least make sure they checked into the products that they sold before I bought them. I found forum after forum only to find that ALL dog over the counter products like this can be lethal. Hotspot, Hartz, SentryPro (sergent’s). The way these products work is two issues. One is, it is absorbed by the skin which then circulates it through the blood stream. It kills fleas by attacking the nervous system of the bugs. The pesticide cannot distinct between Dogs, bugs, kids, and adult’s nervous systems. Some are more SENSITIVE than others on absorbing this poison. Before you allow your child to wash the dog or do it yourself, consider these items and do your research. Dont take my word for it. What do I know? I found that some of these chemicals used may be linked to parkinsons disease. I found that the EPA doesn’t take into consideration how much dogs sleep with family members or share common items such as sleeping on bedding and cuddling. It is awful what happened to my baby, but I think she will recover. I do not think any of these products should be sold because even a child handles a dog with a flea collar and gives them a bath. It doesn’t have enough warnings NOR an information packet to tell us what to expect or do if something bad does happen. It should be our choice to purchase a product with knowledge of what we can expect. It is just like purchasing tylenol or a sleeping pills. Tell me what to look for so I know when to get scared at least! We always wonder what causes the increased defects and cancer rates other than a higher population and environment. Why dont we start considering poisons like this. They find medication and poisons in our water systems and it makes the news. Why hasn’t this? Just bothers me. I posted something on my myspace (yes I am retarded like that) and emailed people. But apparently some do not look into this kind of thing until it happens to them. I was one of them. Good luck to everyone. The EPA’s # is 800-858-7378 to report a poison issue that happened. I suggest EVERYONE take the time to file their report and issues. Thanks for letting me vent. Written from good ol’ Livermore, Ca. PS. I see that Frontline is the only one that is less likely to cause these problems. Even K9 advantix has similar pesticides that Hartz uses. I hear that Keri Lotion is also good at preventing flea bites and can be used on the humans to prevent bites while you find other ways of getting rid of your flea problems.

I was shocked when my vet told me that they saw a lot of cats and they weren’t so lucky.

I treated 4 cats with Hartz Flea and Tick powder within the last month. The one who got the most powder, Wobbles, a beautiful black kitty disappeared without a trace, most likely dying in agony under my house, where I can’t reach, as she never left the yard, EVER. She was deaf (she became deaf after being treated for ear mites 2 years previously, at the vet!) and only roamed about 10 feet into the yard and then back into the house. Minnie sickened for a week and died from kidney failure yesterday-Minnie, a 4 year old little tiger Manx, who loved to sit in the sun and beg for her ears and back to be scratched, and Cleo, who is now sickening and suffering from weightloss, salivation, lethargy and inappetence. Cleo, a pretty golden tiger cat is sick and I can’t afford to get her to the vet after spending over $200 on trying to save Minnie. There is no one to help me save her!!! And Inky, who I gave a bath to just a couple days after treating since she was scratching more with the powder on her than she did without it. But now Inky is COVERED with scabs and is losing some hair. I treated her with Frontline, two days ago, hoping that it will help relieve what I hope is flea allergy and NOT a reaction to that deadly podwer. I hope that I haven’t poisoned her further by using two products. What can I do????
Hartz needs to pay in every way for what they’ve done to our pets!!!

I bought exactly the collar for the weight of my dog and put it on him yesterday. Today he can hardly open his eyes, they are red and swollen like from an allergie. I took the collor off right away and now I am watching him. If this is not better soon I have to see my vet.
I did have a problem with Hartz ones before, a cat almost died and I had to go to the vet several times which is expensive. Hartz appolozised when I complained. I found out many other people had problems with Hartz products. How come this products are so dangerous and pets have to suffer. I found out the problem with flea collars goes on for years, why are this products not recalled ? If only a few pets have this terrible reaction it is a few pets too many.

I purchased Sergeant’s flea and tick spot treatment a month or two ago for my 6 month old bichon frise. As soon as I put it on his back, he crawled into the corner whimpering. I picked him up and looked at his skin. He had a burn down his back that was cracking and bleeding from the stuff. Luckily, I washed him and it came right off. But… he was still bleeding a little and in a little pain. The next day he wasn’t in pain but still had some cracks. It also left a yellow tint on his white fur that hasn’t gone away still and it has been over a month. I would never buy this product. I have used other things from this brand but never use the flea and tick drops. I think the cinnamon and peppermint oil in it was the main factors that hurt him.

My perfectly healthy 3 year old dog died yesterday after a HARTZ 4 in 1 application.
I AM FLOORED BY WHAT I HAVE READ THIS EVENING ON THIS PRODUCT. I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT IS SO ACCESSIBLE AND ON SHELVES EVERYWHERE. I GAVE MY PET HARTZ 4 IN 1 AND SHE DIED.

HEALTHY and full of life, my sweet Kellie Bellie, a black lab mix just had her third birthday and died with out warning yesterday. We rescued her from a shelter at 3 months old and wondered what we ever did with out her comical loving ways, I can not believe that I am faced with seeing what home will be like with out her now.
It is flea time here in Texas and I see that Kellie, and my other dog and two young cats are treated with flea and heartworm prevention during the thriving months. My dogs have always been on K9 advantix and my cats on Revolution. I order these products from a pet med place and it usually takes a few weeks to get them. Yesterday morning I was shocked to find that we were completely out of the good stuff as I order 6 mos at a time.
I used this HARTZ garbage in a pinch and an attempt to get ahead of the disgusting flea game. I figured the Hartz would not work as well but may give them some protection until I can get them back on their regular prevention next month.
We applied the HARTZ about 10 am to all 4 pets, none of them seemed abnormal in any way, including Kellie. At around 3pm I let both dogs inside from a potty break (both were completely normal) around 3:15 Kellie was laying in front of the TV with her eyes open with out a pulse or heartbeat. After a few short minutes of trying to revive her we rushed to the vet.
She is gone. (we had the other dog checked when we took Kellie to the vet to confirm he was ok)
The vet did not place flat blame on the HARTZ but did say that their pesticides can have a toxic effect on animals. Although she did not show warning signs of poisoning the toxins could have shocked her little heart into a stroke or heart attack.
THE VET ADVISED US TO GET THAT CRAP SHAMPOOED OF THE OTHER PETS IMMEDIATELY and wait a month to restart their regular prevention.

I have no idea exactly what happened and did not want an autopsy, but I have nothing else but the HARTZ to blame as it is the ONLY thing that was different in Kellies routine.
I TRIED TO REGISTER HERE BUT CONTINUE TO RECEIVE ERRORS, I DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE ANONYMOUS. IF ANY ONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME, PLEASE DO SO. DMCKIN9807@AOL.COM

MY HEART GOES OUT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS LOST A FURRY ANGEL. I AM OUTRAGED, DISGUSTED, NAUSEATED…THERE ARE NOT WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE FEELING I HAVE TOWARDS DEATHS THAT OCCUR BY SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

I sprayed my stairway, my couch, two chairs, and my bed with Hartz Flea Spray. Then I went to work. 10 hours later I came home and didn’t think anything about the smell. I assumed after 10 hours, it was safe to sit on the couch and lie on the bed. It has been 23 days since then, and the smell is driving me crazy.
I vacuumed, put baking powder down, washed and re-washed bedding, couch cover. I threw rugs and clothing away. I tried Fabreeze. I go to the sauna almost daily thinking I have to sweat it out of my body. I started drinking liquid chloraphyl because the local nutrition shop said it might be an internal issue. I used the sinus cleansing kit from Wal Mart thinking maybe it was in my sinuses. By the way, no one else can smell it.
I called the nurse hotline. They said a smell that is not going away is not a health issue but put me through to the Poison Hotline. They said that as long as there were no respiratory or neurological symptoms, I had to wait until it went away.
Not a good way to spend a month. I smell this sicky sweet chemical spray everywhere, even when I leave home and go to work. NEVER AGAIN!
(oh, at least there were no fleas that lived, they were lucky.)

I can’t believe this! I work night and got a call from my mom who stated that she gave Winston, my 3.5 mth old yellow lab, a bath with that new shampoo we bought. As my mom was drying him off she noticed he looked sleepy. She went to go get his bed and then when she came back she thought he was running in his sleep. As she got closer she realized that he was having a seizure. My mom, a doctor, grabbed the shampoo grabed everything that he had touched in the last 10 mins basiclly and jumped in the car to head to the vet. When arriving at the vet’s office (she called on her way), Winston finally started to just move around and start to be very playful again. At the vet’s office my mother was told that it was most likely he had low blood sugar and that honey would fix it. Thank GOD my mom is a DOCTOR b/c she inisted on blood test. The vet realizing that my mother knew what she was talking about did the blood test and then looked at the shampoo and stated that she was right and that they would give Winston a bath and make sure that he would be fine.. We never used that shampoo or their products again and Winston has never had a seizure again. The vet apoglized to my mom about the inisted and has since stopped all his patients (or those that listen) from using products that they make.

I had just applied Hartz One Spot to my two beautiful Bengal kitties when they started cleaning each other, as they often do.
I panicked and went to the Hartz website to see if this was going to make them sick by ingesting it. To my suprise I couldn’t even find the product on their website!
So I did a google search for Hartz One Spot and was led to this website, Thank God!
After reading several stories of bad reactions from this product, my stomach dropped. I rushed each kitty into the bathroom for a bath to remove as much of this POISON as possible. This was a VERY traumatic experience for all three of us! (I am worried the trauma of the bath itself is going to make them ill.)
I have also given them some milk, but they are still too stressed from the bath to drink much of it.
I will post again tomorrow for an update to see how my kitties are doing after these interventions.
I don’t know how Hartz can get away with keeping products on the market that have received these types of complaints! I also bought this product at Walmart. If Hartz won’t voluntarily pull these products maybe we can influence stores like Walmart to stop carrying them.
Thank you for having this website, you may have saved my babies lives!

The next morning, after eating a chew the day before, my dog was in the emergency hospital with acute pancreatitis. He was put on an IV, spent the night & did recover, but the vet bill was outrageously expensive. The only thing I could assume to be the cause was the rawhide. I never again purchased anything made by Hartz. I see a similar story posted by another dog owner at this site. I know the latest concern seems to be with cats, but dog owners should also beware!

I was told to bring them in a.s.a.p.- which I did. They told me that SENTRY/SENTRY PRO was not good for them as well as HARTZ, or any of the over the counter flea medication. They told me to wash the cats with DAWN dish soap to help extract the oil from their fur and skin. The Chemicals in most over the counter flea treatments is toxic and fatal. The antidote-valium-Diazipan. The MOST SCARY THING THE PACKAGE READS: HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS. Still in tears as I watchfully monitor “moo” the smallest cat as she is still shaking and crying with fear. The next 48 hrs. she could get worse or better. Praying its better. Their needs to be more info out there for pet lovers about the chemicals used for animal care.

I lost my friend, my family.

I want to make everyone I know aware of this webpage and tell everyone I know that Hartz is deadly!!! I miss my Nitro–RIP nitro Love Mommy

On March 8th, 2008

I gave my 5yr. old cat tiger a bath. Using Hartz flea and tick 2 in 1 cat shampoo. I don’t bathe my cats too often maybe like twice a year. I followed the same instructions I always followed on the back of the container. I wet him down with warm water and applied a small amout of shampoo to my hands and lathered it into his fur. Like always he puts up a small fights since most cats can’t stand water. I took the shower head and rinse the lather out of his fur while working my hand through is coat. to be sure to not leave any soap behind. Then he climbed out of the tub and jump on top of the sink to I can towel dry him. After I got him mostly dry I took him upstairs to my mom so she could see him. He was pretty active playing around on the floor then he went downstairs after he was done playing around. about 10 minutes later he comes into my room while I was on the computer and began to lick himself, (which is what cats do). he was licking himself for about a good 10 minutes, then it sounded like he was beginning to choke on somthing so I turn around and proceed to pick him up to make sure nothing was lodged in his throat. But before I actually grabed him he fell over on the floor and began shaking violently and not breathing at all. So I pick him up and run into the living room screaming for help. I layed him on the couch and attempted mouth to mouth but nothing happened he wasn’t even coughing or nothing. My mom advised me to rush him to the vet, which is directly around the corner its literally a 30 sec drive down the street. I rushed into the door and asked for help tiger was already limp in my arms not responding at all not even attempting to move. I was talking in a rush to one of the vetinarians and told him I gave Tiger a bath just a few minutes ago. Immediately he asked me what kind of shampoo did I use I told him “cat shampoo” but he asked if i knew the brand and I told him no, he begins to say if I used Hartz Shampoo that could have killed Tiger. So I called my dad which was still at the house and asked him to bring the bottle of shampoo up and the doctor confirmed that thats the shampoo that may have killed him. He advised me to keep the bottle and call the company on Monday.

I called Hartz on Monday and spoke to a representative from general customer care. She wasn’t at all too helpful but she forwarded me to poison control I believe and basically they advised me to ship them the bottle of shampoo, any vet bills, a letter from me. to their headquarters. And also they want to perform an neropsy on Tiger to determine his cause of death. The company Hartz isn’t performing the neropsy, they are having the the University of Chicago perform the procedure on my behalf. So today I am geting supplies to have him shipped there, and if it turns up that their product has done this to my animal I am prepared to take legal action against Hartz and the companies that actually sell their deadly products.

I am not looking for a hand out regarding this issue. I just want to see a major recall on their products. And all I want to see are some results, so this can stop happening to other people cats or dogs.

Tiger Passed at 10:46am on March 8th, 2008

Yet HARTZ puts it in most of their flea products. For example HARTZ Ultra Guard Plus Flea and Tick Spray. Avoid this pesticide and HARTZ in general until they remove this pesticide from all of their products.

I know from personal expeirence that if you get the HARTZ Ultra Guard Plus Flea and Tick spray on your skin it burns and can leave rash marks on your skin that last for days and sometimes weeks. Thier is no point to put this product on a pet that your trying to save from fleas. Your better off giving them a DAWN flea bath. DAWN will not kill the flea eggs but it does kill all the fleas on your pet. You can give your pet a DAWN bath 1 or 2 times per month. DAWN is completely harmless to your pets.
