My cat started panting and running around the house, I looked it up on Amazon reviews and saw all the negative reviews and what to do, I got a wash cloth, ran it under the facet, put some dishwashing detergent on it, and wiped my cat down at the neck area where I put the drops, she was fine within minutes.
I didnt know that this is why my Gandalf Gray suddenly got sick and then passed away….Reading these stories…its amazing how similar each case is…I am FURIOUS that I trusted this company and my friend , my companion, my child is no longer with me!
I boycott any Hartz products because of my experience with the flea drops. I applied the Hartz flea drops to my cat (who was a 6 year old, 20 lb Maine Coon at the time) and within an hour he became lifeless. In a panic I called my vet. I started to tell them what was happening, and I kid you not the vet tech on the line said “you used the suicide drops didn’t you”. They told me to hang up and immediately apply a whole bottle of blue dawn dish soap on dry fur. Then wet him and lather him up. Wait 5 minutes then rinse, then bring him in immediately to be given IV fluids to flush his system. Luckily he survived. Once home and settled I started Googling these drops. What I found was so upsetting. I don’t know how these drops are still on the market. I don’t know how they don’t change their formula. Hundreds if not thousands of cats have died or almost died from these drops.
We used Hartz flea spray and spot treatment on our 14 yr old terrier mix about 4 weeks ago. He got around good, played with the kids and loved to eat!!! He started to become weak, especially his back legs, stopped eating and drinking and also layed around and didnt want to so anything. We ended up at emergency vet this weekend and he was in kidney failure, with his age the vet disnt think he could pull through this so today we had to say goodbye to him. If I knew that these products did this to other animals, i would have never purchased it. Do you know how hard it is when ur 4 yr old says” i dont want decter to die mom..
From Staci via email:
I’m desperately trying to get the word out about the dangers of using Harts. Until Friday, I had never heard about how dangerous Hartz flea drops are. Three weeks ago, I applied Hartz Ultraguard to both of my cats. Soon after, my 12 year old, Jackson started having strange leg spasms. It was like something was shocking him, and he would take off running. Then he stopped eating and became lethargic. I thought he had grown tired of his food, so I tried several different brands. He would take a few bites and stop. Then he started drinking a lot of water. The weight loss was rapid. When we took him to the vet on Friday morning, I expected to hear that he was diabetic. Instead we were told that he was in acute renal failure and severely anemic. The vet explained how many animals that she had personally seen die from Hartz flea medicines. I had no clue that buy switching to Hartz to save a buck, would cost me my furbaby. There was no hope of recovery. We took him home so that the kids could say goodbye when they got home from school. A little before 5pm, he took his last breath. Now my spunky 16 year old healthy bobtail is showing some scary symptoms. She had become very vocal tge night after the application, but I didn’t make the connection. Now she’s vomiting everything she eats and is starting to drink a lot of water. I will be taking her to the vet, today, and praying for the best. I’ve filed complaints with the EPA. I’m plastering Hartz Facebook with my story and pictures of my baby. Why isn’t this on the news? Most people are completely unaware that they could be killing their beloved pet. How can we get the word out? How can we make sure that Hartz is held accountable? My heart is broken because I unwittingly killed my baby. I don’t want anyone else to go through this.
Our chocolate lab, Serenity, was only 1-1/2 old when something went horribly wrong. At first we thought she might have ingested rat poison due to her sudden symptoms and how she died, but after researching on the internet I came across this web site and was shocked to see so many other sad stories that were very similar to mine. What happened was we were awakened at 1:30 a.m. by my son who said the dog was crying in her sleep, went into a seizure and fell off the couch on to the floor. When I first saw her she was lying on her side, breathing very shallow, and her eyes were open, but did not look focused. I thought maybe she had had a grand mal seizure and was in a post ictal state so we sat near her and waited to see if she would come around. She did start to come around, but she just did not look right. Then she started having diarrhea with a little bit of blood in it, and she vomited twice (no blood in the vomit). The diarrhea continued, but it got to the point where there was just blood coming out. After 4 hours of profuse rectal bleeding she collapsed on her side and started yelping. We called our vet at about 6 am and he said he could meet us at his office in a half-hour. Unfortunately, it was too late. She just laid on her side and continued yelping for next 40 minutes
