My husband purchased Hartz Ultra Guard for 61-150lbs. Was trying to do like most of would do , to get rid of flees. I so wish I had looked on here before this happen. Pepper was 11 years old , would be 12 in December. She was a very outgoing dog, love to fish, swim, walk , run, etc. Her health was good. That day Friday the July 25, 2014, change our entire life. The next day came, she was puking , and not steady on her feet very well. I tried the hot line on the box, no answer on the weekend, try back during business hours. Tried my local vet, they were closed, it was Saturday. Did try there emergency numbers , no answers for help. I decided I needed to think quick. Put her in the bath tub , to get this crap off of her. Thought we were ok, not. Later that night, She was up looking to go outside like she does, but the back legs of my girl went out. My husband had to go get her and bring her in. She finally looked like she could rest at 3:00 in the morning on the 27th of July. Then she starting panting, heavy breathing, and she was done. So sad. Please pass this on, maybe can save someone from this product. It happens so quick, I My miss my Pepper so much. She did not have to die like this. Prayers to all that have had this experience.
I bought Hartz flea medication today for my cats.. With
in five minutes of putting it on them they started to walk funny and foam at the mouth and started to throw themselves on the floor.. I gave them a bath to try and get it off of them. the smell was so bad it made my eyes water i felt so bad for them.. How can a company make something so harmful to pets and they say they care about them.. Hartz is a joke tried to call the emergency hot line and of course they think emergency are only going to happen on there buisness hours…I am so angry and worried….
Hi all, to make a long story short, my 3-year old Cat Rufus had a horrible reaction to the drops. It was like he was having spasms, hallucinating and severe twitching. I googled the product and was shocked at what I saw. Vet told me to come in right away and they bathed him and hooked him up to an IV to try and flush it out. He was there the entire day. He is still not himself, barely eating and constantly hiding. I hope he recovers soon. Uninformed as I was, I bought the product at Walmart, the vet told me that the Hartz drops is basically a pesticide. Hartz products and Sargent Green products should be banned they said. They also told me that the Hartz products that are sold at pet stores seem to be less toxic than the one sold at cheaper big box stores. I can’t begin to explain how angry I am.
Thanks for letting me vent!
I put on the hartz ultraguard plus collar for dogs on my dog. I didn’t touch the collar for more than 2 minutes, and washed my hands immediately afterwards, but my skin has been feeling so weird…it doesn’t hurt or anything…it’s just sort of irritated. I don’t feel normal but don’t know if I should be going to the emergency room. I’ve washed my hands numerous times, and I still feel sort of funny. I obviously took the collar off my dog immediately because that scared me, and then I started reading these reviews…my dog doesn’t seem affected but I’m not going to sit around and let her. She seems okay but I’m still kind of worried. What do I do?
Fred was my companion for the past 9 years. He was a big cat with a bigger heart. He knew no stranger. We began having a flea problem in our basement which worked its way upstairs, so I gave my cats what seemed like the best flea control for the money. I only wish I had known a few weeks ago what I know now. Fred passed away this morning of an anemic reaction as I did all I could to wash the horrid flea infestation from him, the exact thing I thought I was preventing with the Hartz product I purchased. Not only did it not work, it deteriorated his health from a vivacious large cat to the point of dying from a flea infestation. I pray people realize the dangers of Hartz products before they learn through the loss of a beloved pet, as I did. I will miss you, Fred, but I swear to you I will do all I can so that your death will not be in vain.
A couple weeks ago I put a Hartz tick and flea collar on my cat Spaz. Last night it fell off and this morning I noticed that my poor baby had lost all of his hair around his neck where the collar was and there was a white substance on it. It wasn’t bothering him but I gave him a bath and now that the residue is off it looks a lot better. I wish I had known about this site before I put one on my fur baby. My kids were so worried about our Spaz. I will never purchase another Hartz product again. From the looks of the previous posts we definitely got lucky this time.
my cat of ten yrs died 7-14-14 after I put hartz flea collier on her.i cried all night.my dog and other two cats started acting strange I removed there colliers. they are doing a little better now. you people need to check out what you are doing. you are killing our pets.
I read the box did exactly what it said and when I got up sat morning my cat was in the bathroom tub laying in vomit, blood etc. absolutely broke my heart to see her like that . this company really needs to be put out of business they are money hungry animal killers
Sargeant’s Green potential pet poisoning which eventually led to death of 25 lb Cocker Spaniel and presents allergic symptoms in human (myself); rash, itching, shortness of breath, swelling of vessels.Other pet displays symptoms of heat stroke.I applied on June 1st when she first showed slownes or laziness which I thought was the new harness. Later in month, I reapplied mid month because fleas were so bad(box says 15lb pet even puppies) She eventually became ill and after about 3 days of decreased activity and minimal vomiting the night before(small amt. of dark green mucus?), vet diagnosed without blood test iron deficient (even though I told him about the Sargeant’s Green reaction since maybe June 1st) and was finally able to bring home with meds. She died ThursdayAM after breathing difficulty night before even though she had showed signs of improvement.Vets refused to take body to make sure not in coma without cash, refusing to bill.Had previously reported to poison control after vet iron deficient diagnosis.SPCA hotline was nice, but local SPCA insulted me for buying an over the counter med.I’d sort of like to complain about the vet also because he ignored my repeated information about potential poisoning/allergic reaction. I have a rash, swelling and itching in addition to shortness of breath from the fleas that took some of the flea med. Although the taste of it isn’t bad, I have a very dry mouth and swelling in my throat at times, but not constant. She was a very active 7yo dog, even though she had problems with her eyesite. She was a strong walker until June 1st which I associated with the harness. I am upset with the vet that he ignored the information about Sargeant’s Green and gave me more flea meds that were even stronger after a potential poisoning(Ovitrol).; (veterinarian) Sunapee NH. I am wondering if he knew the people who developed the product. I had to bring her to a crematory because I had no place to keep her and am hoping she was not in a coma. Other dog sometimes displays signs of heat stroke, but is slightly larger. I reported to Sargeant’s Green online and poison control after the vet kept her overnite, stating she might not make it because of iron deficiency. She ate fish. This was very abnormal activity for her.I feel as though the vet ignored my valuable information, but doesn’t mind billing me even though she’s dead. Especially since some reaction have been passed off to myself, the human. I gave CPR.
