Cat Foaming at Mouth

I have 2 beautiful tabby and Persian cats..both females…I had bought the Hartz flea and tick for cats because they were just kittens about 23 weeks old…I did as the instructions told me too and  after about 3 minutes one of my cats started to foam at the mouth and acting crazy…one of my cats started having  a seizure at the same time..I thought I was going to loose her…..I grabbed her and my daughter and I gave her a bath right away…she was so weak from the seizure that she couldn’t keep her head up…she didn’t eat for over a week..hid under my bed and wouldn’t let anyone touch her…so my advice to all cat lovers or dog lovers don’t use this product..it can kill your beloved pets…

Cat Went Crazy

I bought a hartz flea collar and i had my 2 yr old cat sitting next to me. As soon as i opened the package he freaked out over the smell and started running away. He is a total stanger to flea collars and its unsual for him to act that way, but nevertheless i didnt think much about it cause i figured since it was a scented flea collar, he just didnt like the smell. Anyways, i got the chance to put the flea collar on him and right away he went nuts. He began to roll on the floor rubbing his neck profusley and started drooling real bad. I freaked out and rushed to get the flea collar off but my cat was so spooked he kept running away from me. After a hour of chasing and trying to calm him down, the poor guy looked hit. Watery eyes, slight foamy drooling mouth, and just down right weak. I took the collar off, washed his body, and im hoping to god he will be ok! I googled side effects for flea collars and found this website. I had read so many stories and i hear the same thing, “why hasnt anybody sued this company, and how are they even in business”???? I feel the same way!

Count me in as the newest Hartz hater.

Was taking my 7 month old kitten to the vet to have her stitches removed from her spaying a couple of weeks ago. I really wanted her to be able to go outside and be able to playmand explore – we have a  large backyard in a very quiet cul-de-sac. I picked up the Hartz UltraGuard OneSpot drops for cats and applied it behind her shoulders as the directions said. The trip to the vet for the suture removal was next on my list and that was a fortunate thing! Within 20 minutes, she was drooling, foaming at the mouth, and otherwise very distressed. The vet gave her a very thorough cleaning and fortunately, she seems to be ok. I was furious that a company could sell this product without proper warning of the potential risks involved. All they have is some vague, generic warning about sensitivities to pesticides. I am very fortunate that Tigerlily is ok, but I am out $50 for the emergency wash/cleaning. I wrote a letter to Hartz describing the ordeal, but I am not holding my breath for a response. Has anyone else here had success getting reimbursed for vet bills, ect? My heart goes out to all of you that lost a beloved pet from this poison.

Liars and killers

I posted a experience a few months back I had with my dog. I gave him Hartz flea medicine and he started shaking and drooling, so I took him to the vet and he told me it was from the flea medicine and he gave him a steroid shot and prednisone. He seemed to be recovering but then his back legs started failing him. I took him back to the vet and he gave him another prescription of prednisone and he seemed to be improving again. But the prednisone stopped working for him and he lost complete control of his back legs and they were just dragging behind him. I tried everything I could to save my dog. I even got him a doggy wheelchair. Anything to avoid that dredded trip to the vet to have him euthanized. But everything I did was in vain. I ended up having to have him put down anyway. I conacted Hartz about this issue and they told me to send them a written diagnosis statement from my vet saying that he believed the flea medicine caused my dogs death (which he did) they told me to send them my bills and they would reimburse me. Well, guess what I got back? A check for $20! What a slap in the face! I called Hartz, and I was absolutley furious! They told me that they came to the conclusion that the flea medicine did not kill my dog, regardless of what the vet said in his statement. When I argued with them about it all she could say was “Ma’am your dog lived for 2 more months after he had the symptoms”! I said “yes you idiot, he did! but he couldnt walk the whole 2 months and because I tried everything I could to save my dogs life you stupid moron!” (yes I was mad, really mad) Long story short they tell me that as a “courtesy” they would send me a $100 check, which I still havent seen yet and that was over 6 weeks ago. The people are murdering, heartless, crooks and I am doing everything in my power to make sure people know about there products. I told that lady I dont know how those people sleep at night! They must employee people without a conscious! They are nothing but heartless KILLERS!

My Cousins Cat

My cousin had a gorgeous black tiger cat. They had used Hartz flea control on him because another house-cat of theirs goes outside. They put the flea medicine on him while he was laying down. He sleeps a lot as normal and about two hours later they went to feed him. He wasn’t moving when they got the food out. My cousin went to pet him and he was completely cold. He had died within the two hours they put the flea medicine on him. He was a healthy cat, no health issues. We all strongly believe it was the Hartz medicine.

… ???

I understand your concerns and the problems as well. Your stories brought tears to my eyes. I also understand that it says on the boxes of the Sergeant’s Silver Squeeze-On For Cats and Kittens that it is a pesticide. It has it under HAZARDS TO DOMESTIC ANIMALS. I haven’t had any problems with my kittykat and using Hartz. I’ve used Hartz on a couple of my animals before and haven’t had any problems with any of them. Course that was probably because I’ve never gone past the first 2 doses of the medicine before either. I will take all of your messages against the products under close consideration before using it again the next time. Yes my kittykat has been scratching still, but i did notice that the fleas were flocking to the areas where you shouldn’t put the products. I also have given my kittykat a flea bath before I used the product and more than the Hartz medicine killed so far were killed in that one bath. I also gave my kittykat a dial antibacterial tropical soap bath 2 days after I put the medicine on my kittykat. I also live in the basement so it stays very cool down here (maybe that plays a factor into that as well). I haven’t noticed very much change in my kittykat’s behaviors at all, except that he stays away from the bathroom now (hah hah he doesn’t like taking baths very much). There was an intense amount of fleas on my kittykat before I put the flea stuff on him. I have just used Hartz ultragaurd flea and tick furniture/carpet spray on the carpets and furniture today. I know there are ups and downs to all products on the shelves, so I will just watch my kittykat’s behavior for now. I have heard good things and bad things about these products and i have never had a problem with them before this either. I was, however, wondering about the bad side of the product as well and you cleared that up very good. If there is any changes at all in my kittykat then I will post it and i will also go to the vet’s with my kittykat. Thanx very much for the information. I have noticed that he has sneezed lately, tho he sneezes all the time when the seasons change. I may have to further look into that one closely. I am also using a flea collar. I have noticed with the flea collars that it didn’t work very well cuz when i moved into the basement with my kittykat he didn’t have them but just to be sure my sister and i treated him with flea medicine and put on the collar as well the same day. There shouldn’t have been that many fleas there on him. I also know that bugs continuously evolve from the insecticides and poisons that we use against them. I do wonder if the stuff isn’t working at all. I need to give my kittykat a new bath soon cuz it has been 3 days so far and 1 day so far since the dial bath. I’ve been picking the fleas off of my kittykat and killing them myself and even that has been more than the amount that the medicine has killed so far. I just don’t know what to think anymore. I thought it was working. I’m not sure if it is actually working to kill off any of the fleas so far. I know it’s only been like 4 days since i originally put it on him, but shouldn’t you receive some results after the first 2 days of the products use? For now because i have no income whatsoever i am just going to watch what he does and his behaviors as well. Thanx for the updates.

Hartz bad for pets for sure

I have a Saint and a Japanese Chin. Both have been treated as directed with the green shampoo and flea treatment in the small tubes once a month as directed. The dogs still itch repeatedly and their hair is falling out and they won’t stop shedding. This stuff is terrible. Now their skin is raw, so we’ve switched to other products instead. I bought it because it was inexpensive, but now my pets are paying the price:(

My friends Cat Evana

My friend had a flea problem and it was spreading to the other pets. Evana was the core animal that started with it so she was the only animal to get the treatment (sadly but thankfully) We gave her a bath and put the Hartz Flea and tick treatment on her. She was fine for a while but then disapeared. We thought she was just mad because of the bath. Well the next day we got worried and searched for her. She was hiding underneath my bed. She had been having seizures all night and still was having them.  We rushed her into the Vet and she told us about Hartz and its reputation. She took Evana and gave her an iv and said she would be working on her all night because she had already had the medicine on her for too long. This morning we got the call that she didn’t make it. Her heart gave out. She was only 2 years old.
