My name is Lynda and I wanted to try to get the word out to small dog owners and cat owners. I purchased this product from PetSmart on April 14, 2012. I bathed my 2 chihuahuas with it on April 21, 2012. My male chihuahua threw up and was fine afterwards. However, my female did not throw up but was acting like she had an upset stomach. I tried to get her to eat and she wouldn’t. I tried to give her her favorite treat and she wanted nothing to do with it. I finally was able to get her to eat a couple of very small pieces of cheese, I thought it might help settle her stomach. The dogs went to bed that night as usual about 9:30 pm. I awoke on the 22nd at 7:30 am to find my female chihuahua comatose. My neighbor and I rushed her to her vet. He immediately started IV’s on her when he heard what I had bathed her with. 5 hrs. later she died. The vet tried cpr on her to no avail. I do not understand why any company is allowed to continue selling products that are causing deaths to animals. Even if it just makes them sick it should be taken off the market. I want as many people as possible to know about what happened to my Lila. If just one other person changes their mind about using this product, then Lilas death will not be in vain.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby! I as well do not understand how a company can still be in business when it murders innocent animals! I found an add this morning and have been doing research on it for a little while now. I am currently putting the word out to try and educate more people about this. Again I’m sorry about your loss. Here is a poem that I found when I lost a dear member of our family a few years ago.
The Rainbow Bridge Poem
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

Zodiac Flea & Tick Shampoo for Dogs & Cats and Adams Flea Stray
Nicky is 11 and a Dal/Lab Mix
We purchased the first product about 2 month ago, after I washed Nicky twice in one month he became very lethargic and seam to be unstable walking at times, after he was washed with Tail/Mane shampoo he started to get back to normal & he perked up again. Last Year He also had a bad reaction to Adams Flea Spray but in that case he was foaming and lethargic.
Watch your pet very carefully if you use any Flea & Tick Shampoo & Spray. You may want to try a mix of body oil wash or olive oil with water and eucalyptus oil instead & and spray it on the dog, the mix need to be massaged on to the skin.

My deepest sympathy on the death of your baby. I, too, tried Zodiac dog shampoo on my old and young Shih Tzus on a Wednesday nite. When the older one, Ricky, couldn’t stand up Thursday morning, I never suspected the shampoo, because the other dog was fine. He ate little Thursday nite, and nothing at all Friday. We were at the vet’s when he opened Saturday AM; he said Ricky had been poisoned. Still didn’t suspect the shampoo, but on a whim I googled the brand. I will be returning the product to the manager of Pet Smart with a warning. Ricky is better now, but has liver damage. We are holding a good thought . . . and praying.
But I read the entire lable, and I can find no mention of Hartz. How do we know where it came from? I have had a policy of not using Hartz products for years, even if they were free,

Too bad I didn’t hear about this last year. I have used Hartz on my dog too to prevent flea infestation. My 3yr old chihuahua has never had any fleas but one thing I did notice was that during the period he used the product he would vomit a couple times and he now has two bald spots. I only used the product 3-4 months a year but I’m definitely NOT using it ever again. I will visit the vet first before putting anything else on him. This should be displayed somewhere in the store so people make wise decisions.

Carol Leary….. The bottle does not say Hartz on it. It says Wellmark International, but after a lot of digging, it was discovered that Wellmark International and The Hartz Mountain Corp. are all owned by the same people. I guess kinda like a name brand and then their generic brand. I am pleased to say that my dog Paco is fine. His sister is very much missed though. I no longer use any kind of flea and tick shampoo on any of my doggies. They all use Comfortis tablets once a month, it is expensive but I don’t have to worry about it killing them.

Flor, I am so happy to hear that you will not be using this product on your little doggy again. I have put my dogs on Comfortis tablets. It works wonders…. within 30 minutes the fleas were GONE, and there is no danger of it killing the animal. My local PetSmart store actually took this product off their shelves. We miss Lila very much, but I can see some good coming from her death. She will always be remembered and loved.

When I first read this posting I was too devastated to respond (a couple of weeks ago). My heart really goes out to you for the loss of such a special friend. At the time, I had just purchased this shampoo along with Sentry Flea & Tick Squeeze on for Dogs, 15 lbs and under. I decided to do a little research though, before using either product. After sifting for through the ad rubbish on the internet, I finally found this site. After reading, my heart broke for you but I was so glad you posted what had happened. Your special friend did not die in vain. I made sure to show these products around my office making sure no one purchased them.

Needles to say, I will gladly swallow the expense and get the Frontline, which I know, from previous use with our Rottie, that it works, SAFELY.
Ironically, this evening, I got a call from the pet chain I used. They were doing a survey on customer satisfaction. I made sure to tell them about your story and the Sentry stories;
I let them know that I rated them a “0″ for recommendation, because they had no business selling a product that they obviously didn’t know anything about and a 3.5 for customer service, because the clerk I spoke with told me to leave the shampoo on for 5 minutes and, when I said I would leave on for 10, she said “that’s fine”. Based on what I have read… tsk tsk tsk.

I have used most of these different products and on occassion the animal had a re-action of lethergy on vomiting but cleared up after several hours. (4-5 times over a 25yr period).
3wks ago I bathed my pets and my poor cat that is 18yo has had a really rough time of it and I am very concerned about her health at this point. she never vomited but has slowly appeared to have went totally blind?? her eyes are dilalted fully this should not be….if there are so many c/o like this why is it allowed to continue??
