Hartz Ultra Guard Plus flea and tick collar and drops for cats is unsafe products.

As it is flea/tick season I went out and purchased two Hartz products which I thought would protect my pet. Unfortunately, rather than protecting it caused him harm. I arrived home from work on Friday and noticed chunks of white hair all over my apartment. I immediately found him and checked him out. To my surprise who would have thought that the Flea collar burned his hair off!!
Thank god, I immediately removed the collar off of him. I than returned the Hartz product back at the store which I purchased it from. The store personnel say that they have never had any other customers have this issue. I have called and left a detailed message with Hartz and Pet Value head office regarding the product and the damage it has caused. Some people may think its silly to be heart broken, but I love my pet, my stomach is truly turned and i feel so bad for him. He probably thinks I put that darn thing on him to punish him…
In doing research on this product over the weekend there been tons of customers who have had the same thing happen to them going back to 2000. In addition, my vet says that they have had many cases come in regarding Hartz Flea/tick products burning the hair and skin on cats and dogs. I truly cant believe that this product could still be on the shelves or the active chemical is not banned yet. Many of the pet owners stated that Hartz continuously places the blame on the owners for improper use of the product. Very Sad…..Isn’t there something we can do to get this known chemical banned? Is anyone looking out for us and our pets?

  1. I recieved a call at 7:15 this morning from my cousin and his wife who were on their way to work…As they were driving to work they could see this kitty in the middle of the road…They thought she was hirt by a car but they could see that she was still alive b/c she was shaking and twitching…They stop and got out to check on her but then wasn’t sure what was wrong with her…They called me about the kitty and told me how she was acting (i knew) and i asked them if they could bring her to my home while i contacted our vet on their emerg. line…I knew i had no time to waste,i had to get her to the vet asap…When they arrived at my home and i checked her over i knew she was poisoned with mostly likely Hartz flea products and when i arrived at the West Coast Vet Srevices an hour’s drive later the vet confirmed that she was treated with HARTZS FLEA POISON….She is now in ICU…
Scapa and the vet is doing everything we can to save this sweet little girl…
Kendra is in need of prayers, good vibes and donations so she may have a chance to recover…

  2. I also bought ultrahertz to try to cure the fleas off of hed, thinking it would, but unfortunately, that crap killed her hair. I was so upset, now my baby girls got a long dark brown shade of rough and dead hair/fur. this stuff is poisoning to them.

  3. In 2008 I applied a Hartz flea product on my cat. Within 5 hours the fur began falling out exactly where the drops were applied. His skin went from pale white to beet red. He was in serious trouble. I called my vet and was told to come asap. On the way to the vet clinic my cat began twitching and foaming at the mouth. He no longer answered to his name. They ran with him to the treatment area of the hospital….Tests showed Pyrethrain poisoning. His kidneys had shut down and his liver enzymes were insanely abnormal. He was unresponsive and having seizures.
My vet worked endlessly to save Max…..
Thank God he survived and was nursed back to health for a vet bill of close to $6,000.00.
I had medical records…had the box with the flea poison…the receipt. I contacted Hartz….submitted this nightmare to them and demanded to be reimbursed.
They told me….TAKE US TO COURT !!!

after absorbing a 6,000 vet bill i could not take on the Hartz corporation..

Why these products are still being sold is beyond me…

Max is now gone (RIP)….I have 2 other cats that I adore.
Once again I am in the throws of a flea problem. My friend went to the store and came home with HARTZ ULTRAGUARD PRO for cats. I FROZE !!!!

THE PRODUCT IS BEING RETURNED TODAY…I WILL SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND BUY BAYER ADVANTAGE FLEA TREATMENT….THIS IS VET RECCOMENDED….IT IS EFFECTIVE AND DOES NOT KILL CATS.

I TRULY WISH THERE WOULD BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THIS COMPANY. THE FDA WOULD PULL THE PRODUCT IF IT WAS KILLING HUMANS. PETS ARE DISPOSABLE PROPERTY AND CAN BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE FDA…..CORPORATE PROFITS AND GREED PREVAILS.

    DISGUSTING !!!

I WISH EVERYONE WELL. I AM OFF TO THE STORE TO PURCHASE A SAFE FLEA TREATMENT FOR MY BOYS.

  4. Thanks for sharing your story, I’m really grateful. My husband just bought a product “Hartz” for my kitty, I had a bad feeling about the necklace and decided to investigate about the brand, I found this page and all the stories they have shared in it and I’m really very happy not to have used the collar on my pussy.
