Lucky, I guess

My dogs were not hugely harmed by Sergeant’s Evolve, as others have related.  So I guess I am just lucky.

However, the product was completely ineffective.  After a week or so after application, we discovered that the dogs were just covered in fleas, the worst infestation I have ever seen.  That stuff must be a flea attractor.

At $12 per box, you’d think Sergeant’s would pay a little attention to the product’s efficacy.   Apparently they feel they need not worry about repeat business.

My roommates cat sam.

Alright, So three days ago i told my roommate  to go to the vets and pick up some advantage to de-flea his cats and dog. He made the mistake of being cheap and had gone to walmart to pick up some hartz flea treatment. Last night at 2a.m. i saw samcrow out side, my roommates cat and he looked like he had been struck by a vehicle. The cats body was covered in mud, he looked cold and i honestly thought he was going to die. but when i brought him inside i placed him down on the counter to examine him. I did not see any cuts or scratches. His body was not bleeding, So i figured he was just cold, maybe he fell in a puddle and was freaking out from shock. I found a large towel popped it in the dryer to warm it up and wrapped sam up in it to see if he would stop shaking. but it was not working, i then noticed his body was not that cold at all. I was extremely scared, so i rushed sam to the pet emergency the whole time he was shaking would not open his eyes, and looked like he could not control him self. When i got to the vet, i told them that at first i thought he was struck by a car but he does not look injured, then i told them how i thought he fell in water but he’s not cold. they made me wait for about 20 minutes and came out and asked me if i gave sam any flea treatments, i called my roommate he said yea he used hartz flea and tick removal. Sam is still at the pet clinic. and they said he may make it and he may not.  What i would like to know is, why on earth would any place sell this product, especially when most pets  almost or have died from it?

Sam is sick and might pass away due to reaction from Hartz flea treatment.

Persian Cat – Another Victim

Look at this board!  People like you and me posting DAILY about their horrible experience with this product.  I can’t believe it!

I came across the Hartz spot on treatment product at Walmart.  I didn’t know anything about the poor reputation of Hartz — in fact, I just thought it was a familiar brand that I could depend on.   Also, I remembered hearing a commercial recently advertising that Walmart was the exclusive provider of a flea/tick spot treatment … I thought I was purchasing the exclusive brand, FOOLISHLY thinking just because it was on Walmart’s shelves it would be safe.

I applied the drops to my cat while he was reseting.  Not thinking anything of it, I left the house for a few hours.  That afternoon, I noticed him starting to twitch and itch.  I foolishly thought that maybe there WERE (to my surprise) parasites on my cat, and he was just responding to them dying.  (Silly in hindsight)    That afternoon, he was QUITE lazy and lethargic…  I attributed it to his insulin/diabetes, however.

I went to the Hartz box to read for further instructions about the application…. whether it kills parasites on contact, etc…  there was no such information.  There was only a statement urging us to make sure it was applied directly onto the skin of the cat… under their coat.  My cat is a long hair, so I thought perhaps I didn’t apply it correctly…. and started to apply a little more to my cat, Joey, but he ran in terror at the touch of the liquid on his back.

It took me some time to piece it together…. thinking that the twitching and scratching was caused by an infestation of some kind…  when I observed him scratching, I would inspect the area he was scratching and found no sign of any parasites.  Rubbing his back (he has a lions cut), he was very sensitive to it and snapped at me….something he never does.  In the upcoming 30 minutes, his condition DRASTICALLY got worse…. not into a true seizure like on some of the videos posted, but twitching uncontrollably… overly lethargic… abnormal breathing… eyes closed / in back of head….

Long story short… after researching the internet and finding the many people warning of the horrible product, I went into panic mode…. rushing to bathe Joey repeatedly.  After washing him and seeing his twitches continue, I would wash him again.  I was seeing improvement.

It’s 10:30 PM now, and Joey is still very weak.  I have been in touch with the ER and will bring him in at the first sign of deterioration of his condition.  Seeing improvements, I am continuing to monitor his condition, and am ready to take him to the docs at the drop of a hat, if needed.  ( I recommend everyone take their animal to the vet at the first sign of problem.  It may save their life )

——————-

The box contains NO WARNINGS to watch for specific conditions / twitching / redness / seizures.  All it conveniently contains is a waiver of liability.

I am disgusted with Hantz and will fight to educate friends and fellow-pet owners of this dangerous product… IT NEEDS PULLED OFF THE SHELVES OF ALL WALMARTS.

I’m seeing a lot of people, like me, who saw it in Walmart… gave it credibility… and ended up POISONING a member of their family.  This isn’t a rare occurrence… this is mainstream……..  we must all fight to correct this and pull this product from the shelves…. at the very least, there needs to be clear warnings and emergency instructions.

Crisis Averted – Thank You

I have 3 adult cats and 1 kitten.  I’ve successfully used Revolution before and am very happy with the results.  But lately, I’ve recently noticed increased scratching in my cats.  Because of the high cost of Revolution, I was looking for a cheap solution until payday.  While at the grocery store I grabbed the only collars they had, Hartz Brand, in an effort to give my cats some relief for the next week.  I was concerned about using the collars and the Revolution in a short time period so I went to the internet to learn the safest waiting period.  Thankfully, when I googled the ingredient in Hartz Flea Collar… This site and the awful picture of TJ came up!  Desperate for a temporary solution, I continued to debate the risk and benefits in my mind while reading the stories.  I once tried Frontline and my oldest male, Archie, had an odd but short lived reaction.  He began drooling, shaking his head, and running around the house for about 15-20 minutes.  It scared the bleep out of me, but thankfully the only lasting effect is the bald spot on the back of his neck.  With that in mind, and reading all of these horror stories, I finally came to conclusion that it was certainly not worth the risk.  Today, my cats are happily snoozing. They may be a little itchy for a few days… But I’m sure they won’t hold it against me.  If you had not created this site I could have injured or even killed them.  Thank you so much for this site. And, to all of you who’s animals have suffered because of this horrendous product.. thank you for sharing your stories.  I’m sorry for your and your animals’ suffering.. But please know that your stories may very well have saved atleast 4 lives.

PS.. the $32.00 I spent on the collars would have paid for a large percentage of the Revolution… They’ll be returned tomorrow.

Something wrong here

Used Hartz Ultra Guard Plus flea drops on my cat a second time, even though the first time I tried it my cat was acting weird for a few days. I used a second tube of the drops a month later and my cat’s behavior changed again, except this time its been a week. He hides when he sleeps, which he hadn’t done before, and is reclusive where before he’d been sociable. I don’t know what’s going on, but I won’t be using Hartz anymore.

Fenn – Hartz Ultra Guard Flea Drops

We recently had a flea infestation in our home. Our dogs frequently play near tall grasses, etc so this was no big surprise. We always used Hartz flea drops, but this time they still got the fleas.

We had to give them multiple flea baths (with the Hartz shampoo) and reapplied the drops. Our one dog is fine, but my dog Fenn, within the last 2 weeks didn’t want to eat her food and rapidly lost around 15lbs.

I had my husband take her to the vet this past Tuesday and her bloodwork came back with moderate kidney problems. We have not put a specific diagnosis yet, but my mom told me about the issues with Hartz which sparked me to search and find this website.

If Hartz contributed to her kidney issues, someone will be hearing from myself and my attorney very shortly.

Havarti

My girlfriend put some Hartz flea medication on our kitten yesterday. Tonight she got up to check on our dogs and the kitten was seizing. We have bathes her several times, and now we are just snuggling up with her and hoping for a miracle. we have called every emergency vet in our area (note: it is 2:37 am right now) and no one will treat her without a HUGE deposit. We just don’t have the 700 they are all telling us will be the base cost for IV fluids and detox meds.

I called the Hartz emergency line..they don’t really care at all what is going on. not even an apology.

This little kitty was the teeny tiniest runt of a stray. We adopted out all of her sibs, but wanted to keep an extra close eye on this little one. She was finally out of the woods, doing great, and we tried to save a few bucks by not getting frontline (like we usually do) this month.

So mad at myself.

Ultraguard Rid Flea & Tick Dog Shampoo with Oatmeal

I am a new puppy owner and I’m just now getting the hang of what I should do for my puppy as far as fleas go. I purchased Ultraguard Rid Flea and Tick Dog Shampoo with Oatmeal for my 11 week old German Shepherd. It said that it’s safe to use at 8 weeks so I felt comfortable using it. Big mistake. Moments after her bath she was shaking as if she was suffering from epilepsy. It wasn’t a nervous shake, more of a jerky tremor. She also started walking as if she was intoxicated and wouldn’t stop barking at us. I freaked out and thought the worst. The next morning I took her to a vet and I was told that these products have some type of chemical in the pesticides they add to their product that cause neurological damage and even kill some cats. Liberty (my puppy) is fine now, but I’m glad I caught it when I did. She could still be in danger of some kind of permanent neurological damage and I hope not, only time will tell. This product is dangerous and should not be available for purchase.
