I wish that I had known what Hartz does to animals before I used the product. My cats Tucker and Bella (brother and sister) both had a few fleas. I went to walmart and bought Hartz Flea and Tick Drops. I put the product on both cats. Bella was fine but my cat tucker started to bald a little in the area in which I put the product. He was acting normal nothing unusual. Then one day he was walking into the living room and he seized and died. My friend did CPR for 10minutes. I had no clue what happened I was a wreck. Both me and Bella saw him die. She was depressed for so long because of his passing. I am heart broken. I wish that Hartz would be shut down. The loss of an animal is horrible. My house seems so much quieter now and I hate it. He was the little trouble maker and watched over his sister. I am thankful he did not die in pain it was very quick but I just wish I knew that it was preventable. For now on I am sticking to Dawn soap to treat fleas. To get rid of fleas around the house I sprinkle salt. I miss him so much and I wish that some how Hartz could realize that they are ruining families.

Sorry for your loss! I, too, witnessed the same terrible death of my 3 yr old cat, Bianca on 8/22/2010. After getting over the shock of the loss, I became quite angered to think that Hartz knows their products adversely affects our beloved pets. A internet friend from Canada and I have set up a page on Facebook, called “Hartz Products are killing our pets” So far we have over 200 people added on the site. Please check it out and help our cause to get Hartz off the shelves. The EPA, the agency that governs what products are allowed on our shelves, is investigating Hartz as more and more people file claims about how their pets die or severely injured as a result of their product.
Again, I am sorry for your loss, but together we can promote awareness of how awful Hartz is.. maybe we can get their products off the shelves before any other pet is injured or dies because of Hartz.

I am also sorry for your loss. As soon as I found out that the cause of my cats death was Hartz products. I contacted them with my anger and I also did join the facebook group. I posted videos on my wall to get the word out. I would have never known the reason for my cats death had I not over heard someone talking about how bad Hartz products were almost two months after my cat passed away. We need to stop this!

I’m so sorry. I was fearful the last two nights for two of my cats both named angel. Yes I’m aware that’s weird. THey both went into seizures and were shaking each one night after another. My baby, who I nicknamed spazz, went into it at 8 o’clock on december 20th 2010 and finally came out of the convulsions and seizures at 7 the next morning. We didn’t think anything off the first cat going into it because she had fell the night before but when spazz started we decided to look into Hartz. I freaked. Then promptly carried her to the bathroom and washed her off. O can’t believe how heartless these people can be. I’d make the bet that the owners of this company, if they have pets, don’t even use their own product. My baby is a ragdoll persian and I adore her so I hope so much that this is behind us. So far so good, but who knows.

Dawn soap is great for a flea bath, but is really drying, so you need to use a moisturizing pet conditioner after it. And it’s much easier on your cat to use Frontline Plus (get it from your vet) which does last for thirty days. Merial, the maker of Frontline, guarentees that it’s safe to use on felines and will prevent flea infestations as long as you get it from a vet’s office. Revolution is another safe flea prevention product for your cat that also prevents ear mites, intestinal parasites, and heartworms, for those that have outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats. Using one of those two products will help get rid of fleas in your house. If you see one flea, you have thousands. A 50/50 mix of Borax laundry detergent and table salt is a great way to kill them in your carpets. Sprinkle it on and vacuum it up 24 hours later. If you continue to use Frontline or Revolution and the Borax/salt combo, in 3-4 months your house will be completely flea free and your cat won’t keep nurturing the little buggers. Dawn isn’t appropriate to use as a preventative. I would advise a fecal for your cat as well, as she may have tapeworms from the fleas.

Yes! My cat is being treated for tapeworm and she is using frontline know. thank you for the other ideas on getting rid of fleas around the house!
