Help me please…. what do i do?
About 2 hours ago i sprayed both of my tabby cats with hartz 2 in 1 flea spray after finding a few fleas on them earlier. my hands were burning from rubbing it in their fur and my cat was going hysterical and flipped back and her fur touched my face…. where in turn my cheeks started burning like fire(i soaked my face in water and washed repeatedly with soap…the only thing easing the pain is some triple antibiotic cream) all i could think of was—what the hell did i just put on my kids?!?! so i searched online for recommended flea medicine and almost every post/blog/conversation had something negative to say about hartz–along the lines of “animal killers… animal poison…. warning….” i’m in so much disbelief that such heinous products are still circling around and taking more victims… my 1 year old orange tabby is normally hyper, meows nonstop, and constantly sprinting across the room…
He hasn’t moved much in the last 2 and a half hours… hasn’t eaten/drank/cried out(which he normally does because he’s “talkative”) and he looks so lethargic, sick, and can barely keep his eyes open. it’s breaking my heart… my other cat won’t come near me… she takes off running when i come near and she rejects all of my attempts to comfort her. i had noooo idea that any medicine i could have purchased would have done this crap to my cats. i’m trying to not cry out loud reading everyone’s posts but i’m truly truly sorry that all of you had to go through all that agony and pain…and more so frustration.
Hartz deserves to go down and take responsibility for their abuse and negligence!
msg to Hartz: how dare you call yourself a “company”…and profit off ur death products… you’re the epitome of inhumane.
i’ll be staying up all night to watch my cats just in case their condition worsens and i have to make a trip to the vet. my little orange cat tigger is tipping back and forth when he walks and the way he looks at me with such helplessness is not making this any easier.

Wash your cat IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call your vet.. We use dawn dish soap on the cat immediately. The toxins will go completely to her organs thru her skin. Get as much off as you possibly can.. I hope all goes well.. Please do not wait! Call your Vet ASAP!!!

I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT TAKING CARE OF MY CATS AND THEY BOTH MADE IT JUST FINE. I WASHED THEM TIL THEY SCRATCHED THE CRAP OUT OF ME SO I’M COVERED IN BAND-AIDS BUT AT LEAST THEY’RE OKAY NOW.

I’m glad to hear that your cats are A-OK. My cats were also very lucky too. I used hartz on them and about eight hours later, my tabby started running around like something was biting him and when I looked at his neck, the site where I applied the poison was beet red, and my other cat had a pink rash. I looked it up and found this site and immediately washed the stuff off with Dawn. They were scheduled to go to the vet the next day for a checkup, and the vet said they did not appear to be affected by the poison. My cats and your cats were extremely lucky. I now volunteer at an animal shelter, and I frequently see animals that are brought in to our vet who are suffering from effects from this stuff. It is really unbelievable regarding how many animals we see in the vet clinic who are suffering from effects from otc flea medicine. However, if cost is ever an issue (it occasionally is for me, since I am a public school teacher), contact your local spca or humane society. They may sell it to you (the spca where I volunteer, sells Frontline) for a discounted price, or they may be able to recommend a good reputable discount place to purchase it. However, before you do any of that, check with your vet first! In closing, I was really glad to read your reply that your babies made it out alright and that they are healthy. I know the guilt you must feel, but trust me, it is not your fault at all. Hartz really needs to be shut down, and I tell everyone who adopts a cat or dog at my shelter to never EVER use that stuff and to only use stuff like Frontline, Revolution, etc.

(SIGH) <—Big sigh of relief! I am so glad to hear that your kitties are okay. I was worried that you wouldn't see my post.. but glad that they are doing ok now. Please tell everyone you know.. I tell everyone I see.. ALL THE TIME!! You just never know when you will save a pet and their family the suffering and anguish caused by Hartz! We have a Facebook site, we started up quite recently.. "Hartz Products are killing our Pets".. We are providing information for better awareness.. with the hopes of getting Hartz off the shelves permanently..
Thank you Erin for your post.. it, too, is quite helpful. May someone read it and know that have other alternatives than to use Hartz OTC products. hopefully together we will make pets safer by teaching others about what Hartz can do to our pets.

i had rush my puppy to vet the 29th of oct. he had very bad relation to the flea prouduct. vet told us was over dosage on my puppy. vet told us he should of died from the fleas proudct . . he doing alots better and acting like his self. DONT USE THIS STUFF ON UR PETS IT WILL HURT OR KILL YOUR PETS

I just got back from the hospital where I got three stitches in my lip, and I am not even upset about that. Why? It was worth it because I had just put Hartz flea an tick spray on my beautiful boy and he instantly became a different cat! I looked the product up on line in a panic, found this site, and quickly bathed my royally pissed off cat. Unfortunately one of his claws got my lip and severely lacerated through it, but I still managed to finish his bath and I am content that he will be alright and a little scratch is soooooo worth it!
I was so scared! I LOVE my cat. He’s been with me nine years and I just cant imagine losing my best friend. I have health conditions that has me awake at weird hours of the day or night, but he is always there to talk to and his purring comforts me greately. It would have literally broken my heart if I lost him. Thanks for this website and the advise and stories given on it.

TO DATE, MY “CHIL’REN”(yes i like to mispronounce it lol) ARE BETTER THAN EVER AND I’M SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT BANNING/DISCONTINUING HARTZ PRODUCTS AND ALWAYS RECOMMENDING FRONTLINE OR ADVANTAGE PRODUCTS ONLY. I UNDERSTAND PRICE IS A HUGE CONCERN CONSIDERING HOW EVERYONE IS GOING THROUGH A FINANCIAL CRISIS. BUT NO PRICE WILL EVER BRING BACK YOUR PET/BEST FRIEND/(IN MY CASE…MY LIL KIDS)IF SAVING A FEW “BUCKS” TO BUY CHEAP PRODUCTS MEANS MORE.

Why did you post on here instead of calling your vet? If you even bother to vaccinate your cats, you have one. Calling them is free and you get a much quicker response. And WHY DID YOU WAIT OVER TWO HOURS TO SEEK HELP?! That’s just ridiculous! You, as an adult, should know better. If you had a human child, you wouldn’t have waited that long. If something burns your hands, it’s going to burn your cat’s skin. Next time you do something like that and it causes your cats to act our of character, call your frigging vet. They went to school for a reason, and can treat your cat better if you contact them sooner. You could have killed your cat by waitint that long. That was an emergency situation. Instead of posting on here and being “a victim”, you should have gone to your vet right away, giving them a call to let them get ready for you. Am I the only person on here that knows what a vet’s office is for? Or that there are emergency clinics and Pet Poison Control? Jeez!
