I purchased Hartz UltraGuard Pro Flea and Tick Drops for Cats about a week ago for my pet. She was having a heck of a time after a heat wave following an unseasonably cool summer. The fleas came to life and got to her with a vengeance. Olive was a 9-10 lb, four year old black long hair. She was the sweetest, most affectionate cat that I’ve ever met. She was very special. Today is Wednesday following Labor Day weekend. Four days ago, on Saturday, I applied the medication to her neck, exactly as directed on the package. I have used other, more expensive flea meds before, so this was not a new procedure to me. As I’m trying to be as frugal as possible at the moment I bought the Hartz drops, hoping to save a few dollars. I was not aware of the true cost of using this product. On Monday, which was Labor Day, I found Olive in the back yard laying on her side. I was watering the plants and wondered why she didn’t look up when she heard the hose. I stood quietly for a moment and looked at her lifeless body. She wasn’t breathing. She was dead. In my experience a four year old cat dying out of the blue without any trauma or illness is highly unusual. I have a strong feeling that I inadvertently killed Olive by giving her Hartz UltraGuard Pro Flea and Tick Drops. I am extremely sad that this happened. If I had the opportunity to do it again I would not have tried to save money at her expense. I didn’t know that their product was dangerous. I assumed it was safe. I was as wrong as can be.

sorry for your loss. It is such a shock to lose a beloved pet that way. I am sure Hartz products killed your cat.. which is sad. I lost my cat, Bianca on 8/22/2010. The Hartz shampoo I used on her was not medicated shampoo.. and killed her in 3 minutes. Please tell everyone you know about this site and urge them to look into Hartz products before using them on your pet. Once again.. sorry for your loss. I tell everyone I know.. every chance I get.

We had 3 dogs that that died from using Ultra Guard Flea and Tick Drops. Our dogs where health dogs. Hartz has no right to be kept on the market especailly with all these complaints on this websites.

Oh !@#$ I bought some Hartz Ultra Guard Pro, the purple tube from Coburn’s. I stumbled onto this website just now. After reading all this stuff, oh !@#$. My dog is an 8 y/o shepherd mix. I put this stuff on her the other night for the same reason as everyone else, to save $$$. She has been coughing and weezing for the last 24 hours, all day and all night. I thought it’s kennel cough, because I rescued an abandoned puppy from the AHS on friday. !@#$ folks! I am calling a 24 hr vet clinic now

My dad applied Hartz Ultraguard flea & dick drops to one of my kitten while I was incarserated, and it stoped eating and died. Sadliy it was the last kitten in that litter. A terrible product!

I purchased Hartz Ultraguard Plus Flea & Tick drops for my dog yesterday. And like all of you are saying, I was just trying to save a few bucks. I didn’t know of the dangers of Hartz products until I spoke with my neighbor today. Her dog had a seizure from Hartz flea medication before. I applied the medicine to my dog more than 24 hours ago and he seemed to be fine, but I still decided to bathe him to get rid of the medicine before it did do something horrible. When my friends dog had her seizure the vet bathed her right away. So if any body out there bought this stuff and starts to read all the bad things that can happen to your animal…BATHE YOUR PET ASAP. Could save their life!
So sorry for all of your losses. Makes me mad that they are able to sell a product like this.
