OK, this is probably the hardest thing i think i have ever had to go through. Back in March Me and my girlfriend went to get us a new addition to the family. My Uncle knew a Husky breeder and we were off to find our new family member. We literally spent all day looking through all 6 puppies before we figured out that we wanted our Luna Belle. She was the runt and of course had her problems ill be it minor, which was a bladder infection. We took her to our local VCA Animal hospital and they took great care of her. that was the only problem we have encountered here until recently when we went out to the store because she had fleas and got Hartz brand Flea dip! Directly after applying (by specification no less and ensuring that i kept her face dry and out of the water) she wasn’t acting right but not so terribly off that we could notice. See the problem was it was right before bed and around 9 p.m. she gets sleepy. (DAY 1)The next morning she wasn’t moving, barely eating and drinking and we rushed her directly to the VCA again. We brought the Flea dip with us which the VCA had to throw into the BIOHAZARD CONTAINMENT BOX!!!! They washed her 3 times to try and get all of the “product” off and we took her back home after her getting checked out. (DAY 2) She had started coming around a little better and eating better, but she still wasn’t moving around. Sleeping most of the day away, which is something our vet said may happen. Per our vet “she may be a little lethargic for the next 24 to 48 hours”. We have been watching and she has had issues walking on her back paws. Trying to keep them straight and not putting much weight on them. Night of day 2 we make her get up and walk around. she looks so scrawny and not well kept. Waiting to see how day 3 will go…. Any advice would be great, but we are still taking her back to the vet today for another evaluation. I believe she may have had a seizure and that is why she isn’t walking well.
I made a horrible mistake in purchasing Hartz Ultra Guard Flea and Tick Shampoo for dogs, for my beautiful Sammy. I noticed she started itching and rubbing her face against the floor. Now she is balding on her legs and chest from that awful poison. I will never purchase another product from them!! I can’t believe Target offers this product. A year ago I learned that Sergeants flea medicine was horrifyingly dangerous. After applying one dose to her neck she began frothing at the mouth and shaking. My husband and I had to give her three baths and benadryl. We stayed up for hours giving her water. Thank goodness she pulled through and was given a clean bill of health by the vet. I hate myself for what I did to her. I will go without food to ensure Sammy has the best money can buy from now on. Thankfully she is alright aside from her patchy fur. I have bathed her multiple times with high quality oatmeal shampoo – which has definitely helped. I just want to warn anyone I can that Hartz is dangerous! Don’t skimp on the quality to save a few dollars. I can’t even imagine my life without Sammy.
just today i used Hartz flea and tick dip for my 8 lb pomeranian. no more then 20 minutes later i couldnt find him, he was hiding in a corner panting. i called him he would not move. i got him from the corner and his back was arched, he was panting, really could not move. he was also twitching. i called my vet right away! they told me to get him there now! when i got there they washed the product off immeditly, which on the label is says not to wash off! they have him now and they are keeping him overnight. with the horror stories i have read, i hope my dog is ok! i returned home and called the 800 number on the bottle, they didnt help me one bit! (because it was after hours) i made it very clear that they had better pay for my vet bill, and that my dog had better be ok! i also informed them that if they didnt i would have no issue getting everyone who has ever had an issue with this product together and starting a lawsuit. who’s with me?? we cannot have this happen to another innocent pet! we need to get this product off the shelves everywhere and ban this product from being sold! these are OUR pets, OUR babies, OUR children, how would they feel if it happened to them!!!!! i am disgusted with this name!
My daughter got a 20 week old kitten from the local humane society, which cost us $90. We decided to keep it in the house, so I bought some Hartz UltraGuard OneSpot so we could keep the fleas away. After applying as directed, the cat became lethargic and just wanted to sleep. I thought maybe he was just getting accustomed to his new environment. I had to be out of the house for several hours the next day. When we came home, THE CAT WAS STRUGGLING TO BREATHE AND APPEARED TO BE ALMOST DEAD. I called the vet (after office hours) and he agreed to see the cat. He told us that the Hartz Flea Treatment has killed more cats than fleas. He gave him two shots and some oral medication. He told us to bring it back the next morning and we did. He gave it two more shots and more oral medicine. We have to go back in two weeks for more shots. He is one sick kitty. He has begun to breathe better but has to breathe through his mouth. He is still lying around and not wanting any attention. We try to get him up and he goes right back to his bed. I sincerely hope he starts coming around because Im really getting worried about him. This flea treatment has already set me back $150 and I will have to pay more when we go back in two weeks. I can’t believe this stuff is over the counter and so dangerous. I will never trust the name Hartz for anything ever again. I plan to spread the word. This product should not be on the market!
