Today is a sad day – My family lost our beloved 2 yr old grey shorthaired cat Bianca – RIP Bianca

Today is a sad day! My family lost our beloved cat Bianca. She was itchy from some fleas.. so I wanted to bathe her to relieve her stress. She was sleeping peacefully on my bed. My son and I disturbed her to bathe her to “make her feel better” – I bought the Hartz Groomers Best Hairball Control Shampoo. Once I turned on the water she was a bit stressed and attempted to jump out of the tub. My teenaged son decided to get in the tub with her to calm her down. She did relax. We rinsed her with water first.. the water turned ORANGE.. She put some soap on her.. she went limp.. my son said something is wrong.. so I frantically rinsed her off. We started to rub her with a towel.. and she began seizing… yoweled once then limp. I noticed she wasn’t breathing. I attempted kitty CPR to no avail. Bianca died in my arms. We are devastated. Hartz to do a necropsy to find out what killed her.

  1. I’m completely heartbroken. We lost our 2.5 year old baby girl kitty. The only change in her normal routine was a Hartz flea collar. That was the first and only collar/flea treatment she had ever had. Nissa was an indoor cat, in excellent shape and well taken care of.
I came back to get into bed and accidentally touched her head with my foot. She didn’t move or give a loud purr like normal and I immediately knew. Her little head was sticking out from under the bed like she was trying to get my attention.
I got my husband out of the shower and he came running like a bat out of hell. When he pulled her out from under the bed her little body was limp.
She was still so beautiful and fluffy white with big soft pink paws it made me sob like a mad woman. I keep thinking that she is going to jump up on bed with me any second now. Instead she lies in the backyard, under her favorite tree she bird watched from the living room window. So, there she be.
I am seriously disappointed that Hartz continues to produce such a harmful product. Why the hell hasn’t a recall occurred? Hello!!!!!! RECALL the stupid Hartz products!

  2. I am sorry to hear of your loss. Our beloved Spitz died after just three days of her Hartz flea drops. I followed the directions and purchased one spot for cats and kittens. This stuff is horrible.

  3. Well.. Since I was unable to come up with over $100 in shipping costs, Hartz will not be able to do the necropsy on Bianca! They insisted that they would reimburse for the shipping costs, but what if you don’t have the money to send your cat to IL for the necropsy..Hartz’s answer: find someone to borrow the money from.. the longer it takes to get the dead cat carcass, the chance increases that they would not be able to determine the cause of her death! DUH!! We know what killed her.. just another way Hartz can mess with you! When will Hartz ever pay for what they have done? This sux!

  4. I hate to say it, but you’re probably better off not being able to send them Bianca. I wouldn’t trust Hartz to be honest about her cause of death. If you were able to afford to have your Vet do it, I’d go that route, because you’d get an HONEST answer…which you really already know. The Hartz product is what killed her. I used to work for an Animal Emergency Clinic. If someone called & said their cat was “trembling-shaking-uncoordinated-having seizures-falling over”–The 1st question we were trained to ask was “Did you put flea treatment on them?” Why? Because if it was Hartz or Seargent’s, we were told to advise them to get that cat to the clinic ASAP! I have personally seen numerous cats die from this stuff. When it doesn’t kill them, it can still cause permanent liver, kidney, and/or neurological damage. I’m so sorry about your baby. Whenever I’m in a store..WalMart, PetSmart, etc. & see people looking at the flea products, I don’t hesitate to tell them about Hartz/Sergeants & the Hartzvictims.org website. I also send out an email to everyone in my address book a few times a year & ask them to forward it to everyone they know. Again, I’m very sorry about your baby Bianca.

  5. Thanks so much for your kind words, Viki! I always thought in the back of my mind that it would be Hartz’s way of “getting rid of the evidence”. I am so glad that you are passing the word on to others about how bad that stuff is… So traumatizing to us to see.. I can only imagine how she suffered. I am just very glad that she went quickly instead of hanging on for days/weeks etc. She will always be my little Bianca… just sad that so many pets like Bianca have to suffer. One day, I might get my wish and see Hartz products COMPLETELY taken off the shelves. Please keep up the efforts because there is always someone out there like me that would have been extremely thankful for these words of wisdom!

  6. homermom68…this is the letter I email near the end of winter & a few times during spring & summer…you’re welcome to copy & paste it & send it out. Let’s get it out to as many people as possible.

OK, Yall..It’s that time again..yep..flea season. I find myself wanting to warn as many people as possible. I used to work for an Animal Emergency Clinic. If someone called & said their cat was “trembling-shaking-uncoordinated-having seizures-falling over”-The 1st question we were trained to ask was “Did you put flea treatment on them?” Why? Because if it was Hartz or Seargent’s, we were told to advise them to get that cat to the clinic ASAP!! I have personally seen numerous cats die from this stuff. When it doesn’t kill them, it can still cause permanent liver, kidney, and/or neurological damage.

If you doubt what I’m saying, go to…

    http://www.HartzVictims.org

& read for yourself..It’ll break your heart. It’s also very dangerous for dogs-mainly small dogs-not AS deadly, but still, don’t think it’s ok to use this stuff on them either.

If you have dogs or cats or know someone who does, PLEASE forward this to them!! You could save the life of someone’s “baby”.

I’m not crazy..honest! I just can’t believe they are still allowed to sell this stuff..If it affected people this way, they’d have pulled it from the shelves years ago!!

AGAIN…PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY WITH PETS.

    Viki

  7. One of the doctors I worked with at that same Animal Emergency Clinic took a pad of sticky notes w/her when she went shopping at places like WalMart or PetSmart & when she saw Hartz & Seargents products she’d put sticky notes on the shelves in front of them saying “THIS PRODUCT KILLS CATS”. I refuse to buy ANY Hartz product. Toys, collars, dog brushes, ANYTHING. My niece started the “Stop the Use of Hartz Products on Animals!” Cause Page on FaceBook. She’s in college. I’m SOOO proud of her. So far it only has 137 members because so few people know about it. Let’s get the word out about that too, huh?! The more awareness we can generate, the more babies we can save by preventing their pet parents from buying this TOXIC product in the 1st place!

  8. Thanks Viki.. some awesome information here. I will definitely add her to my Facebook page and let everyone know about this site. I will also pass your letter on as well. Thanks for your support. 🙂
