thank you

for this site. My cat came home from the vet of all places. The holding area/kennel does not have separate holdings for indoor and outdoor ‘pets’, so my kitty came home with fleas. We used hertz flea drops and immediately i noticed her head twitching oddly.  I was frantic and new something was wrong so I immediately soaped a facetowel and rubbed the stuff off the back of her nape. It was all I could manage to call the emergency vet,  and sobbing, tell her what was going on. I was so terrified, ad the twitching looks so abnormal, I thought she’d go ito seizures or something.  As instructed, I brought her in  to the vet the next day and she was bathed again. But the damage was done. 3 years later, and her head still twitches occassionally. It hurts my heart that  I did this to her trying to help, and it infuriates me that Hertz KNOWINGLY sell products that will harm our four legged family members.  All the top execs can burn in the deepest pits in Hell for what they continue to do. I don’t even want to think what may have happaned if I did not moniter my Mandie the day I put those drops on her neck. If there are people filing a lawsuit against them, I’d certainly like to join them. I’d really like to se them out of business.

Do not put SENTRY XFC Flea products on your animal!!!!

Unfortunately I didn’t read these reviews before I purchased flea products at my local Petsmart. I decided on the Sentry XFC flea drops that go on the dog’s back. I have a dachshund that weighs 28lbs so I bought the appropriate weight size package. Within 4 hours of putting the drops on him he developed nervous twitching of both ears and his back. He twitched as often as a person blinks. We washed him and hoped for the best since it was Sunday night and the vet was closed. My husband carried Otis to the vet first thing Monday morning and she said she didn’t recommend those products. She gave him a shot of atropine and benadryll. Otis is now recovering from the twitching but he is extremely lucky to be alive. He had a very mild case compared to some of the other stories on this blog. I am so thankful to have my dog! I would hate to lose him over something like that. I intend to visit Petsmart and get a refund on that product. I can’t believe they sell stuff like that.

French Bulldog and Hartz flea drops

My Bonnie is 4 years old, and has never had a problem with any shampoo’s, sprays, or treatments for fleas when needed.  Over the past month, she’s been having continuous seizures (at least one daily).  Every muscle in her little body turns hard as a rock, her ears go back, mouth wide open, and she pants almost violently.  It takes a good 20 minutes to pass, and you can’t even touch her for the first 5 to 10 minutes.

Vet visits just offered a pain killer/anti-inflamitory suggesting a pulled muscle in her neck or chest that may be causing intense pain; hence her reaction.  They even talked about putting her out, and injecting a dye into her spine under X-Ray to see if there is some kind of a pinched nerve somewhere.

Then I overheard one of the girls at the front desk telling a customer NEVER to use the HARTZ flea drops, and that they’ve been known to cause seizures in dogs.  So I asked her more about what she knew, and she just said that Hartz was aware of the problem, and that I should call Hartz.

So I first went to get a good shampoo with all natural ingredients, and put Bonnie in the shower and just wahed and rinsed 3 long rounds.  I sprayed on a good skin and coat conditioner, and applied an all natural flea repellant.

It just took a day for her to start getting back to her old playfull self.  She hasn’t had a seizure in over two weeks now, and all is fine.

I called the 800# 275-1414  to Hartz to inquire about the problem, and spoke to OZZIE on 6/16.  Ozzie was unaware of any problems with their product, and informed me that people just assume that their product is the cause of a problem since it’s the last thing that was used.  She claimed to be totally unaware of any issues with the HARTZ product.  I called her on it, and told her I didn’t believe her, and I was sure she had read all about it on the web sites, along with taking all of the Customer service calls.  She just referred to information on the WEB  as bogus, and unsubstantiated.

Has anyone ever gotten any restitution from Hartz at all?  I / Bonnie was lucky that a long good bath got her back to normal after all of the stress and heartache watching her seizure caused me, and I would have done about anything to help her if I would have known.  I felt so bad.  And there’s not even a warning on the labels of their products.  (Although, Ozzie did say I could go to the WEB and look up the EPA Regulations on the ingredients of any of their products.)

To which I replied, “oh, you mean…one of those Bogus and unsubstantiated WEB sites?”…

Help me, used ultraguard plus

Hey I bought Hartx ultraguard plus for my dog and used it on him about 1 hour ago and just went online to see how well it worked.  Well I found this site and am really upset that this product is available and dangerous.  I was hoping someone could help me with some ideas as to what I should do now.  I am going to go to the vet and get some advantage but i imagine that I cannot apply it until the Hartz wears off, should I wash him now?

I also bought the hartz flea and tick shampoo…is it also dangerous?  Thank you for any help.

Another one fooled by Hartz- Lucky though

First off, I want to say that I am so sorry to those who had terrible incidents. My pet and I were very lucky that nothing terrible happened, but I wanted to post my experience somewhere just so one more voice about this product that DOES NOT WORK is heard. I used Hartz on my golden retriever for almost a year. I was trying to save money and saw it in the grocery store. I thought- why not?  It DID work during the cooler seasons. However, 10 days ago I used it on her again and noticed that she was itching like crazy- no fleas though. That changed a few days later. She has fleas all over her and it irritated her skin. She’s miserable and my intent to save money went to crap. I took her to get bathed and dipped last night, and today I am taking her to the vet to buy more medicine and get something for the skin irritation. Grrr. I found out about this site and other stories FAR WORSE than mine. I know we were lucky in this, but again I wanted to simply voice that here is another case where this product did not work. I wish I would have bought the good stuff from the beginning! Good luck to all.

Do Not Buy Sargeants Gold

On Friday June 12, 2009, I purchased Sargeants Gold for my Chihuahua (Spike).  My husband and I applied it as directed at 8:30pm, within 30 minutes he started panting, twitching, scratching, and his skin turned red as fire.  We immediately put him in the bathtub and washed him with Dawn dish soap, before we could get him out of the bathtub he started gasping for air, we got him out of the tub and called our local emergency animal clinic, they told us to bring him in asap.  We got him to the animal clinic and the vet on duty told us that Sargeants Gold was pure poison, he gave Spike some shots and observed him for several hours and then told us to take him home and watch him.  Within about 2hrs he started getting worse, he was gasping for breath, his muscles were spasming, and he was burning up with fever. By this time it was Saturday June 13 at about 7am so we called our regular vet and he said bring him in now.  We got him to the vet and he examined him and said the Sargeants Gold we had put on him poisoned his bloodstream.  He gave him a shot of muscle relaxant because he was having small seizures, he gave him a shot of steroids, he gave him a shot of anti-inflammatory, then he gave him a very large dose of anti-poison medicine to absorb the poison in his system, he also gave him antihistimines that he has to take twice a day for the next 5 days. It is now about 8pm Saturday night and he has improved a lot, but he is still very sick. The vet told us we were lucky because he will probably make a full recovery and so many others that are brought in have died from this poison these people are selling.

So this poison these people are selling and calling it medicine and safe to use for $15.00 for a 3 month supply almost killed a very much loved member of our family.

Hartz Hurt my Lab Chow mix

My baby is a 11 month old LabChow mix, I never had any problem with fleas and ticks so did not use any products. Then one day while shopping at the grocery store I saw Hartz UltraGuard Flea & Tick and decided to get it as I am going camping and thought it would be wise.

Over the next 3 weeks my pup started losing hair, he developed bald patches on his legs and underbelly. Then small tiny scabs started appearing on his head and as they fell off they left horrid bald spots. He started acting strange as well, hiding from the family, being restless at night, a lack of energy and appetite. The last straw was when I saw that his tail was bright red under the hair from where he had been gnawing the scabs. I still did not make the connection to Hartz until I went to my Vet today. He told me that the scabs were an allergic reaction to Hartz and the poor pub had chewed his tail raw. He prescribed some antibiotics and gave him a shot for relief. Only hope that will help him get better. I will tell everyone I EVER meet who has a dog about Hartz. SHAME on you, there is a special place in the afterlife for people who peddle death.

HARTZ ULTRAGAURD One Spot Treatment

I bought this for my 2 year old cat last Thursday. He seemed fine, the only thing he kept doing was trying to lick it off. Well this morning I saw little clumps of hair on the floor and sure enough, the spot where I placed the drops is totally bald.  I am bringing him to the Vet as soon as they open. Thank god I came across this website. I cannot believe that this company is allowed to keep producing and making money off of products that are killing our pets.  This particular product is their most recent and it has the same exact ingredient in it as the ones that were pulled from the shelves, how is this happening? I am reporting this to my local newpaper, and everywhere else I can to get the word out. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN

Kissie’s gone

You can’t imagine how horrorized I feel after finding this site and validating what I suspected all along, that my angel died because of this treatment. I noticed something was wrong right after the application and I asked the vet and he told me that these products do not harm pets. And I believed him and continued using it. I feel so bad, so guilty that I killed her. I thought I was doing the best for her, but she became so ill and the vet never validated my suspitions. I spent over $1000.00 dollars trying to save her life. I refused to put her to sleep hoping she would get better but she died. I still can’t believe she’s gone.
