Thanks to the Wall Street Journal for this report. This entire subject has been flying under the radar for far too long, resulting in tens of thousands of animal injuries and deaths (EPA statistics, not mine) and the cumulative deleterious effects to infants and children are not determined (again, according to the EPA). It would have been more enlightening to the public if the reporter had quoted the many well qualified veterinary experts who believe these products are dangerous--not only to animals, which is tragic enough, but also potentially to humans, particularly children. Also, Bill Ecker, the CEO of Hartz must be very proud of his quote at the end of the article--"You can't get a product to market without showing a high level of safety and efficacy." Oh, really? Then explain, Mr. Ecker, how your own cat and kitten products were terminated by the EPA with a Cancellation Order in 2005 because of the extraordinary number of injuries and deaths. Those products had been on the market for years causing tremendous damage. Unbelievable.
