Yesterday afternoon, my fiancé’ (Chris) purchased some Sentry Pro XFC from a well known pet store and used it (he usually uses Frontline) on his 92 lb. boxer, Rowdy, and shortly thereafter, Rowdy began to run around frantically, scooting his rear on the ground and biting at his tail and hind quarters. He was in obvious pain so Chris bathed him to see if he could wash some of the product off, still not knowing the dangers of this horrible poison! After bathing him twice, he called me to tell me what was going on. I told him that I had heard about Hartz products and to NEVER use them but we had NO clue that Sentry was part of the Hartz line. Chris bathed him four times and thank God he did, I am sure that is part of what saved him. It was a horrible night as Chris lives in the country and there wasn’t a vet open anywhere around him. The night was horrible for both of them, neither slept and Rowdy spent the night in obvious pain and discomfort…whining and chewing at this tail and back legs. He began limping and favoring his leg as well and wouldn’t eat or drink.
Chris read all about the symptoms and issues on your website (thank you!) and took Rowdy into the vet today. They vet confirmed that he was having a bad reaction to the Sentry Pro XFC and to NEVER use it again. He also said that Rowdy was past the worst of it, thankfully for the both of them. NEVER, ever use over the counter, cheap flea and tick medicine – or any medicine for that matter. Go to the vet and get a prescription. The money you may save will be spent 5-10 times over trying to save your pet the following day. Luckily, the vet has seen this before and gave Rowdy two shots…one being a steroid and another is an “antidote” that they use to counter the poison. The vet also suggested that Chris give Rowdy some Benadryl tonight to alleviate some of the “pins and needles” pain that he has experienced and it will also help him sleep through the night. Through no fault of his own, Chris almost killed his beloved pet. I CANNOT believe that this product is STILL allowed to be SOLD!!!! It HAS to be taken off of the shelves. Especially during this time of economic hardship, so many people with pets will unknowingly try to save some money to help their pets yet they may be killing them instead.
Please, please, get the word out, these products are POISON and have to be recalled immediately!! I want to SUE this company!!

Sadly I’m reading these experiences a couple days too late – or I would have NEVER given my girl this product. I normally use Frontline and bought Sentry Pro XFC because I needed something quick and hadn’t ordered Frontline from my Vet. I hadn’t researched this product first – my fault – but I never anticipated what would happen next. My girl had spasms in every muscle, shook uncontrollably and could not walk. She tried to bite at her back end and couldn’t sit still. Wouldn’t eat and just whimpered. It went from what appeared to be a sensitivity (just sort of itchy) to these horrible symptoms in 48 hours. A frantic call to my emergency vet, 4 baths in Dawn dish soap and a couple hours later, she seemed much better. It’s taken her a couple days to get back to herself and I probably will never forgive MYself for doing this to her. Back to Frontline. Shame on me for not doing research first but shame on Sergeant’s for putting a product like this on the market with nothing but “if sensitivity occurs….” on the packaging.

Oh man, if only I had stayed with Frontline! I applied this product to three of my dogs – a 127 lb Lab, a 70 lb Lab, and a 27 lb Terrier. ALL three had a horrible reaction! My terrier is still scratching at her sides and back but the Labs see to have come through OK. On a side note: This stuff stains your carpets like crazy!! In their attempt to rub the product off on me, the couch, the rugs, the walls, each other, they managed to leave several stains on a freshly shampooed carpet. Grrrr!!! After doing research on this product, it is clear they have some safety issues to address. In the meantime, I will be sure to tell everyone who will listen about the dangers of using it, and maybe save just one best friend from suffering.

HOW MANY TIMES OR DID YOU WASH THE BOXERS BECAUSE I HAVE A 1 YEAR OLD LHASAS APSO PUP AND MY PARENTS GOT HER SENRTYPRO TOO WITH OUT KNOWING. IDK WHAT TO DO IT’LL BE TO SAD TO SEE HER DIE AFTERALL SHES MY FIRST DOG!

I accidently applied this to my 2 cats yesterday, thinking it was theirs. Woke up this morning to find them both paralyed & convulsing. They are currently at the vet, one may not survive. Anything THIS TOXIC needs to be pulled.

I ALSO APPLIED SARGENT’S SILVER SQUEEZE ON TO MY 65 LB BOXER AND 145 LB LAB, BOTH ARE HAVING HORRIBLE REACTIONS TO IT. MY BOXER HAS TO LIME SIZE SWOLLEN PLACES AT THE AREA WHERE THE BACK MEETS HIS TAIL. IT IS QUITE RAISED AND SOFT TO THE TOUCH. WHILE I WAS TRYING TO CHECK THESE SPOTS HE NIPPED AT ME AND WHIMPERED. SAME WITH MY 145 LB LAB. I HAVE BATHED BOTH WITH DAWN ONCE AND HAVE BEEN GIVING BOTH BENADRYL. THEY ARE STILL MISERABLE. THESE DOGS ARE MY LIFE AS I AM DISABLED AND SPEND ABOUT EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY WITH THEM. I JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO TO COMFORT THEM. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
