I wish I had know about this site days ago…

As many others, time was short, Vet’s office wasn’t open when I was in town to pick up flea mecication so I went to Wal-Mart, bought Seargents Gold thinking I don’t have a problem, and this will keep one from developing! Ha!

I have a minature daschund who is the absolute light of my life and two precious rescue dogs which I like to refer to as “Designer Dog” aka mutts.  I picked up the medication on Saturday 9/6, went home, my hubby read the directions and applied to all three dogs.  Marshal Dillon, one of the designer dogs, breezed through with no problems.  Miss Kitty, the other designer had minor problems, shaking her ears, rubbing her back and hiding, but didn’t seem to have any major problems.  Heidi, the dashchund, cried, shook, hid, every imaginable distress behavior showed up in this dog.  We do not have weekend vet service available in the county I live in so I did my best with her.  Bathed her repeatedly,  washed her back and neck with cool washcloths, kept ice packs on her as long as she could stand to stay still.  We aren’t through with the vet clinics yet, but you can bet this company and Wal-Mart are going to hear about  the misery my best friends have been subjected to as well as being presented with an outrageous vet bill for having to treat my babies for something totally avoidable.

  1. Hi Teresa,

My name is Julie and I am an online community relations liaison representing Sergeant’s. I want you to know how very sorry I am to read about the experience you and your friends recently encountered and I recommend you call Sergeant’s 24 hour hotline at 800-224-7387 if you have not already. We want to hear from you personally to make sure Heidi is now feeling better and in good health. We also want to open up a case investigation into what may have caused Heidi to have this type of reaction.

I think I should also let you know that Sergeant’s has been actively informing all pet owners about an extremely helpful, online resource that is available called “Look at The Label”. This resource can be found at http://www.lookatthelabel.com and offers tips and information on flea and tick medication that you may find useful. As with all flea and tick medication, sometimes a negative reaction occurs even if we apply correctly and take all necessary precautions — such as ensuring if there are multiple pets in the house that they are separated from one another for at least 24 hours after application to avoid any accidental ingestion. Also, since dogs sometimes do not understand the feeling they are having, they often become scared and agitated – similar to the feelings a human may have when applying a product such as “Icy Hot”.

Since you mentioned that your husband did read the directions, I strongly encourage you do call the hotline, so we can begin to investigate your case further. Rest assured, Sergeant’s does take this matter extremely seriously, as we want nothing but the best for you and your pets. Please be in touch with us at your earliest convenience and let me know if there is any further assistance I can provide you with at this time.

All the best to you and Heidi,
    Julie and The Sergeant’s Team
