I have a 3 year old MaltiPeke who has been prone to seizures in the past and I am currently monitoring her carefully. If you have a dog that has seizures you know that every seizure they have opens the door wider for them to keep having more and more until they get one that never stops. I had a dog previously that began to have seizures from a dip for a skin infection, he ended up taking Potassium Bromide for the rest of his life. But now my new baby, PDog has had much milder seizures, but seizures none-the-less in the past. The moral of my story here is that this morning I gave her a bath with the jasmine scented Hartz Puppy Shampoo and now 4 hours later she just had an episode. I’ve been thinking back on what we did different today that made her have a seizure and her bath was the only thing. So I hop online and search “Hartz Puppy Shampoo seizures” and much to my shock I find this website. I must say that I am furious right now! I trusted this brand, it says “extra gentle” on the label and I bought it for that reason! And now my baby has had another seizure because of this and I don’t know what to do right now. I just rinsed her off really good and she seems to have snapped out of it but I am beside myself with worry. I guess a trip to the vet will be in order now. THANKS A LOT HARTZ!!!!! And thank you all for letting me vent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Needless to say any Hartz Puppy Shampoo or Hartz product of any kind that I had in the house are down the toilet or in the garbage now!!!

We bathed our puppy in Hartz puppy shampoo. 1 hour later the puppy was sick. At first he had symptoms similar to Parvo. My daughter took him to an emergency vet clinic at one in the morning. She spent most of the night there and many tests were run. As soon as our vet opened he was transported to that clinic. He now was foaming at the mouth and having seizures. He stayed with our vet for 2 days. He is ok now but both places told us after many tests that he became ill due to the Hartz puppy shampoo. This brand needs to be taken off the market. We would like to do something about this product.

Wow! This is so weird. I was just searching where I could get more of the jasmine scented puppy shampoo and I came across this. I absolutely love the smell of the shampoo. I wanted to buy more because I’m running out and I can’t find it stores. Now I think I know the reason I can’t find it. My dog thankfully has had no bad reactions to the shampoo at all. I’ve been using it for 5 months and I bathe her with it every week. I don’t understand how other dogs are getting seizures from it, thats so weird. I even just used the Hartz flea/tick medication and she had no bad reaction. Anyway Im really sorry to hear about the other dogs having terrible reactions. It may just be they are allergic to something in the shampoo. Not neccessarily that the shampoo is bad in itself.

We bathed 4 of our puppies in Hartz Groomer’s Best Puppy shampoo Jasmine Scented. Within one hour all four puppies were sick. They had neurological problems, vomiting and foaming at the mouth. I rushed them to a 24 hour vet and within 2 hours 1 of them died. The other 3 are in serious condition.

I bathed our precious little dog and within a few hours she was
experiencing labored breathing and 3 seizures. She could not stand up, walk, eat and drank very little. She died a day and a half later. How this product can still be on the market after reading so many horror stories, I’ll never know. Profits over pets.

I am currently living out of the country while going to school. I have been fostering dogs and the ONLY pet shampoo that I was able to find on the island was Hartz Puppy Shampoo-Jasmine Scented. I was very wary about buying and using the product because I know of Hartz’ reputation. I decided that the shampoo would be okay since there wasn’t any chemicals to get rid of fleas or ticks. I bathed my first foster dog (1.5 years old) at least 3 times with the shampoo with no adverse reactions. My new foster that I ended up adopting is 6 months old and I bathed him with the shampoo for the second time on Sunday (10/09/12). I happened to catch the light reflecting off his coat today and he is covered in pustules – like he had an allergic reaction to the shampoo. They don’t seem to bother him until I tried to part his hair to see what was going on. He acted like they were painful. I am throwing out the shampoo.
