shocked

I purchased the flea shampoo for my white cat because it was the only flea shampoo on the shelf and the day after I gave her a bath she would not eat anything even when both my wife and I had opened every can in the house. she was taken to the vet that night and he told us about the Hartz line of products and how harmful they are. I can only hope we got her to the vet in time. Why is this stuff still on the market?

our best friend is gone

Broken Hearted in Alaska

We just lost our 5 year old Yorkie at midnight last night. She was not only my dog, she was my baby. 5days ago I treated her with hartz flea drops. Now she is gone and died a horrible death. We fondly referr to her as the FOO dog, She was 10 feet tall, At least she thought she was, she would take on any bear,. any dog, she knew no fear she was Tough, but not tough enough for the posion I GAVE to her. PLEASE Pass the word around Hartzs prouducts are killing are animals. Dont be a victim Like we were. If you have given this to your pet and the have bloody stool and vomiting and your animal is weak God help you,

Hartz Cat Flea medicine

My wife is a vet and I went with her on her rounds to check on the patients this evening. Two of the cats were violently convulsing all day long and required constant sedation, muscle relaxants which helped but still did not stop their tremors. My wife told me the owners had used Hartz over the counter flea medicine, she said unfortunately she sees this alot. I could not believe it. I used to use the stuff on my cats before I met her and she told me it was a neurotoxin luckily my cats never had the horrible effects. I am completely amazed at the massive amount of press and attention given to the pet food recall which no doubt was a big issue. But the fact that this issue, which is equally problematic, has gone on under the radar for so long with no huge recalls, lawsuits, ect. It is quita appalling and I am greatful that this website is helping to get the word out. I think most people just have no idea. Everytime I go to Walmart now i leave little post it notes on the Hartz cat flea and tick medicine warning whoever may purchase it that it could cause seizures or even kill their cat. I would recommend that many other people do the same.

Speedy Gonzalez

His name was Speedy Gonzalez. I rescued him from a really bad home when he was three months old and he became my companion for the next 10 years. He was a gorgeous orange tabby with very distinctive markings. He tamed my 120 pound German Shepard and they could oftern be found taking a nap together. He was an indoor-outdoor cat and often came home with both fleas and ticks. I usually treated him with products I got from the vet but I had just finished graduate school and had to start paying back my loans. I thought I’d save a few dollars and treat both my cats (Speedy and George Bailey) with the Hartz line of products.
Two days later Speedy was laying on my lap while I was watching television and he started having convulsions. His body twitched a few times and then stopped. He got up and jumped off of the recliner and immediately fell over. He tried to take a few steps but he could not stand up. Over the next couple of days he got worse. If he tried to walk to his litter box or food dishes he would take a few steps and then fall over. After two days he just stopped trying to go anywhere. I would leave for work in the morning and when I got home he would be in the same position in the same place. I had to carry him to his litter box and to his water bowl.
I took him to the vet four days after giving him the flea treatment. The very first thing the doctor asked me was if I gave him any of the Hartz products. I hadn’t put the two incidents together until that point. My cat was dying and I gave him the products that eventually killed him. The doctor diagnosed him as Ataxic, which is the inability to control muscles. The doctor said that this is why he kept falling over and eventually stopped trying to walk. The vet said that Speedy had most likely had a stroke. He was also severely dehydrated. The vet said that he would not get better. The vet gave speedy some fluids intravenously and I took him home for one more night together. The next morning I had Speedy put to sleep. He died in my arms. This was Memorial Day 2003.
Yesterday I was talking with a woman that I work with. She told me that her cat was extremely sick over the weekend. KitKat was having seizures, foaming from the mouth, having uncontrollable body movements and according to his owner appeared to be afraid and panicked about what was happening to him. She told me she took KitKat to the vet and the first thing the vet asked her is if she gave the cat any of the Hartz products. She had put Hartx flea products on her cat the previous night.
I couldn’t beleive it. Four years ago these products killed my cat and the same toxic formula is still on the market. It’s available in every grocery store. How many cats have to die before something is done to remove this product from the market completed. PLEASE! Tell everyone you know who owns a cat, who has ever owned a cat, who has ever thought about owning a cat or knows someone who owns a cat. DO NOT purchase any Hartz products for any reason. Let’s put these Sons of *****es out of business before they take another life.
In Memory of Speedy Gonzalez, July 4, 1993-May 25, 2003

Mikey’s story

My 7 year old dachshund had begun to be extremely sleepy and was not as active. When I received a call that his litter mate, a brother, had just died of cancer, I became very concerned and made an appointment with the vet. The vet examined Mikey and since he had a fatty cist and needed a oral cleaning, we scheduled both for the following Friday. I took Mikey in that morning and went on to work. The vet called 2 hours later and told me there was a problem with Mikey’s bloodwork. The vet told me if she had not been treating Mikey for a long period of time, she would have thought his bloodwork results were those of an animal on chemotherapy for severe cancer! Mikey was critically anemic and all of his blood studies were extremely low. She could not even clean his teeth for fear he would bleed to death. The vet ask me if Mikey had had ticks, I said no. She ask me if I used Hartz flea and tick drops. I said yes, I had just given him a treatment on Sunday evening before bringing him in on Monday for the check. This was a week ago. Mikey has been on a round of antibiotics, he is on vitamins and iron tablets. I have had to bathe him many times in Dawn dishwashing liquid to neutralize the Hartz. I am to take him back in for more bloodwork on Aug 7. I am contacting an attorney and will sue Hartz in any EVENT due to their prior knowledge of the posionous effects of this product.

I came home and one of my Cats was trembling.

I couldn’t afford Frontline and bought Hartz products from Walmart for my 2 cats and 2 dogs. The 2 dogs are fine but still have fleas and my 15 year old cat handled it fine but the year old intact male cat didn’t. I applied the product in the morning and was gone for the day. When I came home, he could barely walk and he was trembling and jerking his extremedies. At first I didn’t know what happened. I went on-line and typed shaking cat and up came this website. Thank God because then I knew the cat had been poisoned and to my horror, I had poisoned him using a product that has not been taken off the shelves and is known to cause death! My first instinct was to give him milk and olive oil to slow the absorbtion if any was ingested. I called the veterinary hospital and they said to wash him in Dawn diswashing liquid. They said it happens sometimes with Hartz products. They said all they could do is give him a muscle relaxer and IV fluids. He was able to eat and drink and I could help him feel better by wrapping him in a towel and holding him which I did all night. His eyes were completly dialated. It was hard to wash him when he was shaking but the shaking did lesson after a while. Then I sneezed and he started trembling once again just as bad. By morning the shaking had stopped, but his motor functions were not working well. He did eat and drink and didn’t want to use the litter box but outside he urinated and deficated. This is the 3rd day. His eyes have returned to normal. His back legs are still not working completely right yet. His nervous system must have taken quite a hit because he is still so jumpy and before he was a mellow fellow. I feel he is going to live and hopefully the rest of these effects will go away. Who knows if his life span will be affected. I am so angry at Hartz and Walmart that they know these products are causing very severe neurological effects and even dealth and they have not taken the products off the market! The only reason why would be money. I hope the suit will help these companies do the right thing.

The Entire Hartz Flea Killing Line is a SICK JOKE

i am not surprised to see that if you google ‘hartz,’ you first get that sham of a company website and then there’s this one. actually comforted.
the headache i have from trying to sleep in a room sprayed with 3 in 1 flea and tick killer 24 hours prior forced me to get online, hoping they had an email i could send terrible things to. of course they don’t.

i am a pregnant mother of two with five cats. my family and i have been foolish enough to invite these poison pushers into our home for no less than four years in the form of every flea killer they put out. i feel sick and worse, betrayed. i can totally believe every one of the stories on this unfortunate site having suffered along with them… like idiots.

the collars make my cats’ fur fall out. the bombs drive us out of our homes for days only to come back to PISSED OFF and STRONGER fleas. the drops make our cats extremely sick and neurotic, their flesh crawling; they begin to hate us for that torture. the house spray… what a futile joke… i don’t NEED more LAUNDRY. it is extremely harmful to all animals and only an aggravant, maybe even something that they have mutated to take in and thrive on. it makes me want to do terrible things to the "scientists" they have working on this crap. i find myself walking down store aisles hoping i won’t see any hartz products for fear i’ll have an emotional breakdown and destroy the racks. i suppose this will get better over time, like a breakup or something.

this is war against these fleas. i’m just absolutely heartbroken to finally find out that this has been happening to people everywhere like some sort of internet scam or a womanizer with AIDS. we need something to end the bugs. my two year old has pock-mark scars covering her entire body because of them… no thanks to THE HARMFUL USELESSNESS OF HARTZ. the whole company should be shut down because i’m sure lawsuits are just as futile.

by the way, anyone have a clue how to kill monster fleas???? i swear if they could burrow, they’d be nature’s worst super-creatures… i fear they’re learning…

Hartz One Spot Poison

I just applied One Spot to my cat last night after I found a couple fleas on her. Today I noticed that the fur where I applied the drops was completely burned off and the skin was swollen, burned, and bright red. I rinsed the area with water and baby shampoo. I immediately went to the internet and found this site and I was shocked by all the horror stories related to this product. I’m going to call the Hartz 800 number tomorrow to see what they have to say. Why is this product still on the market? I am also going to contact the EPA and PETA.
