Hartz Mountain is owned by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA) and has a new facility in Fort Lee NJ, as well as the main offices in Secaucus NJ. From what I understand, they are marketing under the name Summit Pet Products – possibly directly to veterinarians.
my cat myrtle had a few fleas, so i decided to buy the sergents natual remedy medication to put on her. i followed directions putting it between her shoulder blades like it said. about 15 mins. later, she started vomiting. i quickly washed off the flea med. and she seemed ok. a few days later i noticed her hair was missing where i applied the med. and it was all dry and flakey. i thought this medicine was safe but i was wrong. i’ll NEVER buy another product from this company again. i’m just so thankful that all she lost was some hair, and not her life.
I used the hartz 3 month flea and tick drops on my 7 month old dog Sissy.I used them the first time a month ago and nothing happened, but i put them on my dog again a week ago and she started getting really sick.My dog is usually very hyper she loves to play and jump on people. About 5 days ago she started laying around, she stopped eating and drinking. I knew something was very wrong,She likes to chew on everthing, so i thought maybe it was something she ate.she started shaking and pooping alot of blood. she was also drooling alot. My mother asked me if i had put any hartz flea drops on her, because it has been known to kill animals. so we knew then that the drops had poisened our dog. We lost sissy two days ago. If i would have known the hartz products were so deadly i wouldn’t have used them. i cant believe they are still selling their stuff. I wish people were more aware of how deadly they are so no one has to loose a pet like we did.
After dosing my Kitty with Hartz UltraGuardplus she almost immediately showed symptoms. First she wildly ran around the house for fifteen minutes. Then hid in what I knew was her favorite hiding place. When I approached her, she hissed and attempted to bite me. With gloves I was able to catch her and rinse the applied area. She then sat and stared at me, her eyes were fully dialated dispite a bright light for the rest of the evening. I was lucky. I still have Kitty.
After finding my 7 year old’s beloved pet cat dead today, my gut instinct told me that her death had to be related to the" Hartz One spot" flea drops that I had applied on her last night. After doing an internet search, seeing the E.P.A. website as well as this one, I found out that my gut instinct was right. I followed all of the Hartz ONe spot instructions correctly. This was a healthy 7 month old cat. It is frightening to me that this product is on the market. I checked the E.P.A. website and saw where Hartz was made to change the intructions say" not to use on cats weighing less than 6 lbs. The label on the drops that I purchased (at Pet Smart by the way) says not to use on cats less than 12 weeks old!!! Why is this product still on the shelves??? I will never buy another Hartz product. People need to know about this!!!!
yesterday july 3rd 2007. my husband noticed that our almost 1 y/o cat coko had dandraff. I said no that’s crazy animals done get dandraff. Then something told me to google it. So I did, the page said that cats do in fact get dandraff but dont worry it is comman. UNLESS, the cat eating habits have changed, it acts like it is just down and out,and it is not itself period. Well that sent of signals coko dont let my husband pick her up and pet her at all, so we took her to the vet fast. The vet asked us what we used to kill fleas and what did we give her a bath in. My husband bought the stuff we used in, which was hartz 3in1 & sergants flea shampoo. The hartz is what we used on her saturday. And from then on her attitude went down hill. The vet told us that coko has been poisned and that they need to get blood work, give meds and give her a bath to wash the all the oils off her body. When they told us that, i fainted i thought my baby was going to die. When I came to the doc told us that they are going to do everything in there power to help coko. She had a really high temp, her breathing was very slow, and she was really out of it. They gave her a bath she improved really well and she also responded to the antibiotics very fast. After 8hrs and 269.00 later coko was fine. She came home last night. And today she has followed me everywhere i went in the house, she hissed and bit my husband just like she always have. She did everything just like she did before all this mess happened with the piece of crap product i bought from walmart. I goggled the product to see if there was a recall and to my surprise i found this web site. If i could turn back the hands of time, i would have never bought it. Wal-mart should be ashamed for selling it and hartz should be ashamed for making it. If there is a way to make there sorry asses pay for my vet fee’s and my time lost from my job someone please let. Is there a law suit for them?
i recived this new product as a free sample the other day and put it on my dog, she now twitches and can’t stop.
she hasn’t eaten and has been lying around, this is not normal for her.
she acts like she can’t hear anything, and her ears don’t stop twitching.
has anyone else had this problem?
my husband washed her today, but she still digs at her ears and twitches.
