Healthy Cat is harmed by Seargents

As I write this we wait to find out whether our baby will live or die. Our can is a 1.5 yr old healthy cat. We went to Wal-mart to obtain flea shampoo to help with her flea problem. She had worm a flea collar before so I did not hesitate with the flea shampoo. I knew flea dip was considered more dangerous so I chose the shampoo as a safe and less intense alternative. The directions stated that I was to apply a “generous” amount and leave for 4-5 minutes. Knowing how much she hates baths I just used a little and rinsed it right off. She was fine for almost 24 hours. We went out to lunch and she was fine, when we can in an hour later she was seizing in the floor, unable to move. We rushed her to the animal hospital. The vet informed us that she was having a toxic reaction to the flea shampoo. He was frank with us, saying that 80% of these cases that they encountered ended in death. He assured us that her symptoms were of the most mild he had encountered and he had no reason to believe she would not make it after 24 hours of hospitalization with an IV drip to clean her system. I can home and immediately washed her sister who had also had the bath but was showing no signs with Dawn as suggested to remove any other possible residue in case of a delayed reaction. We sit and pray, hoping she will be home with us in the morning.

My husband went to the store today. He picked up some Hartz Advanced Care 2 in 1 flea and tick dog spray. We sprayed our dogs (1 large and 1 small – both over 5 years old). We also have 3 cats and I decided to look on the internet to see if we could, healthily, spray our cats with the same spray. I couldn’t believe what I found. Why is this product still on the market if so many animals have been injuried or killed? Why do we have to spend our money on vet bills, or worse, grieve over our animals when it’s so documented that this product is dangerous? I BETTER NOT LOOSE ANY OF MY BABIES!!!!!! There’s enough documentation on the internet that I WILL see them in court. My babies may not mean a lot to anyone else (especially Hartz) but they are ALL rescued babies (Rocky (cat)-befriended stray mamma cat brought her sick little baby and laid him down at their feet; Tigger/Bittibit (cat)-raised in a barn and rescued before trip to animal shelter; Pooh Bear (basset mix)-getting ready to be abandoned because owner moving to apartment; and Chrissy (yorkie)-elderly male owner pasted away and wife’s daughter wouldn’t let her come to live with her-we kept her so she wouldn’t have to go to pound. We love all our babies and NOTHING better not happen because we trusted a product that is on our store’s shelves!!!!!!!!!!!!

dog sick from Hartz inline flea and tick drops

I used this products on my healthy 3-year-old black lab and within hours she couldn’t walk and her muscles were stiff. I took her to the emergency vet and they kept her under observation and gave her a bath immediatly. She is going to be okay but this was so unnecessary. I wished I would have know about this product prior to buying it and I’m not clear why they still sell it. Pretty sad.

Sick pug

I have a pug which is 4 yrs old now and 2 yrs ago she got fleas. I decided to use hartz flea and tick powder from Hartz. I put it on her in the afternoon and by the next morning she was not acting like herself. She was very sluggish and not eating, well by that afternoon the dog was deathly sick, vomiting, bloody diarrhea,
very lethargic. I ended up rushing her to the vets and they had to keep her and we were not sure we were going to have her anymore. After 2 days in the vets and over 1400.00 in vets fees she recovered. I contacted Hartz about this and told them about how sick she got and told them that she had the symptoms as was on there products warning. They told me to forward everything to them and they would review it. Well needless to say they came back to me and told me that their product was not responsible for her bad health and they would not reimburse me for anything. I now tell everyone I can not to use those products because of the danger to their pets–even strangers in the store if I see them looking at the Hartz products

I almost

This has been one of the worst weeks of my life.
I went on vacation and boarded my cat for 2 weeks. When I picked him up from the kennel I noticed that he was scratching his head alot. That usually means he has picked up a flea or two. He is a house cat and usually we do not have flea issues.
On my way home with Bogart, we stopped by our local Pet Store and I purchased litter, dry food and wet food. As an after thought I mentioned to the clerk that my cat had picked up some fleas and could he get me the Flea Product. He brought me what I thought was exactly the same product I had used when I first got Boagart. It is ZODIAC, POWERSPOT flea and tick control. It looked exactly like what I had used 6 months prior.
I took Bogart and all my supplies home. I applied the vial to Bogarts neck and went to bed.
In the morning Bogart was going crazy scratching at his neck. It was really bothering him and I was curious because the application 6 months prior had no noticeable effect on him. He started falling down and rubbing and banging his head against everything.
I immediately bathed him to try and get it off.
Bogarts condition continued to worsen and I called the vets. (they were closed and referred me to an emergency animal hospital) I called them and told them what was happening and they told me to get there as quickly as possible. They also told me to bring the product with me.
Once Bogart had been admitted and started on IV fluids and Valium, we looked at the product.
the clerk had given me the DOG product instead of the cat product. The clerk is a young fellow who works there after school and has not pesticide training and was obviously not knowledgeable about the product(s) he was selling.
After 5 days of vetrinarian care and emergency care and $1800.00 in vet bills, Bogart is starting to recover ( I hope)
He is eating a little and has diarehea, but is becoming more sociable.
His hair on his neck burnt off and they had to shampoo him 3 times with degreasing shampoo. He had to be sedated most of the time.
I cannot buy slug bait or bug spray for my garden without being consulted by an expert in pesticides and yet I can openly purchase toxic products for my pet sold by an after school person. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE, Enough is Enough!

Hartz 2 in 1 Dog Spray

On Saturday I found a few fleas on my Bijon and gave him a good bath and sprayed him with the “Hartz Advanced Care 2 in 1 Flea and Tick Dog Spray” on that night he was scratching and bitting everywhere. By Sunday morning he was extremely quiet and sluggish and I laid down with him while he slept ( he never sleeps during the day) but Sunday he slept half the day. He did eat and on the few occassions he was awake he was not his usual self. He did not play at all on Sunday but simply laid around. He always runs and plays with his brother another Bijon and both are extremely active.

By late Sunday night I gave him another bath just to wash off the spray. This seemed to help but I’m concerned becuase he is still not him self. Please let me know if anyone has had this expereinece and if I should do anything further.
