I will NEVER forget my beautiful Journey who was and Sheltie and a show dog……
Well like normal I would give Journey his bath, but I didn’t just use Hartz I used Bio spot. Now I’ve never heard Hartz or Bio Spot harming pets until now.=( Every time Journey got his bath his back legs would go limp. So I of course stopped using the products. About a couple years later Journey wasn’t his normal Happy-go-lucky self….
We took him to the vet and we were told he had cancer. I was stunned. I thought how could this happen to him? He was so young and I felt I never gave him the attention he truely diserved. I know these products killed him. And Right after I submit this story I’m going to go dump out every Hartz product I own. Maybe even start a petiton because I hate to see another animal die in front of me like he did.
I recently purchased some Hartz Onespot topical treatment and Hartz cat shampoo for my cat to treat his fleas.
So after I gave him a bath with Hartz Advance 2 in 1 cat shampoo I also applied some Hartz Onespot treatment.
I would consider myself an educated consumer so naturally I went out looking for information online. That?s when I came across this website. I was taken back and scared for my cat.
I immediately put him in the tub and showered him off. He had the treatment on him for about 2-3 before I found this website. From what I saw online it seems that Hartz only relabeled the old product. I’m not taking any chances or will I ever purchase any products from Hartz. I will also inform all my friends with pets about Hartz products.
I want to thank you for having this up to spread awareness and educate others.
I hope my cat is well or I will be very upset.
I BOUGHT 1 BOTTLE OF HARTZ 2IN1 FLEA SPRAY FOR CATS . I HAVE 4 . I TREATED 1 THEN THE OTHER THEN I BEGAN TREATING THE THIRD , HE BECAME INSTANTLY SICK . I STOPPED . THE FOURTH KITTY DID NOT GET ANY .
BY THE NEXT MORNING 3 CATS WERE VOMITING . BY THE SECOND DAY ONE BECAME WEAK . I TOOK THEM TO THE VET . HE TREATED THEM AND I BROUGHT THEM HOME . BY THE NEXT MORNING ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS HAD DIED .
THE VET SAYS THE PRODUCT CONTAINED ORGANOPHOSPHATE , WHICH SHOULD NEVER BE USED ON ANY CAT EVER .
HARTZ IS PAYING FOR AN AUTOPSY & VET BILLS . SOOOOO WHAT !! I WANT MY KITTY BACK ! AND I WANT THAT POISON OFF THE SHELF .
I never would have thought to look up this website until I returned home from the Animal Hospital today leaving my 3 year old Persian hooked up to IV’s and catheters. I’m so upset and angry. You know how people always talk about hindsite…I wouldn’t have thought that something sold at Walmart could be so dangerously toxic to my cat.
My cat had a few fleas on her after her return from the groomers last week, and it wasn’t time to put frontline on her again until next week, so I thought I’d just buy some Hartz 2 in 1 flea spray.I sprayed some on her Saturday night. Sunday morning I noticed she was not looking good, kind of lazy, and hiding. It went from that to urinating on herself, having diarrhea, and shivering. By this morning, she was shivering uncontrollably, lethargic, hadn’t had any food or water, vomiting, and had a rapid heartbeat. I got her to the vet and they admitted her immediately. She had a low body temperature, high heartbeat, dehydration, lethargy, etc… They think she’ll be alright, but we’re still waiting to get the final results. That $2.97 bottle of flea spray has cost me 360 dollars plus in vet bills, and the health of my cat. I’m still waiting to find out if she’s going to be OK as I write this.
The funny thing is, when I called my vet, and when I got to the Emergency Vet Hospital, both asked me the same question “Did you use Hartz products on her?”.
I used their “Natural” flea drops on my cats and now they are losing huge chucks of hair and have scratched so much that they have open sores!
i am a veterinary technician and i would like to say something to everyone. Hartz products are very damaging, especially the flea/tick drops. they have started marketing their product under “spot-on” or some such name which is not associated with hartz but is still just as damaging. this is misleading to the consumer. i cannot count the times a client has come in with a sick animal showing unusual signs and they say they did not buy hartz, they bought “spot-on”. what makes it even worse is that the product does not work. if you are lucky and your pet does not have an adverse reaction, you still won’t be rid of fleas. as a technician i understand that flea prevention treatments are expensive, however most vets are willing to sell a month at time. this is more expensive in the long run but more feasible for people in a financially tight situation. if nobody bought this product, it would no longer be on the shelves. a month’s worth of frontline or advantage at our clinic in oklahoma is $16. i know this seems high but think of the money you are saving on vet bills to treat the effects of the cheap drops.
my cat was treated with hartz flea treatment last night. Today I got a call from the vet saying he died of internal bleeding. It caused him to seizure and loose control of his nervous system. I will never forgive myself for giving it to him.
I used the Hartz Cat Flea & Tick Spray
on my 4-year old cat. A day later, I noticed she was acting VERY odd (even for her). She would dart from one side of the room to the next at any little sound, and I also noticed that she was drooling profusely. By day three, I noticed that she wouldn’t raise her head to look at something, and it looked as if her head was slumped over her left shoulder. After further investigation, it was apparent she could barely move her head, if at all. I called my vet and she told me to give her a bath immediately and to get the flea spray off of her fur. I did, and she seemed better by the end of the week. She was moving her head like normal, and she seemed like her playful self again, so I thought it was all over.
Two weeks later (yesterday) I noticed my cat wasn’t around much, and her food bowl was nearly full. I found her lying on the floor. She had died sometime after I had fed her Saturday night. Her muscle mass was normal, so she had not been dehydrated; she was lying in a pool of her own drool which suggests neurological disfunction, most likely from poisioning.
I used Hartz one spot on my two cats (1 yr old 6 pnds) and (6 yr old 12 pnds) two weeks ago. BOTH cats are now missing fur in the area where the hartz POISON was applied. Both cats have developed itching swelling and scabs in those areas where it was applied. My six year old cat has been lethargic, does not want to be touched, and BOTH cats drink ALOT of water all of a sudden- All symptoms reported by other pet owners here on this site. I thought perhaps the cats were just having problems with fleas WHICH BY THE WAY ARE STILL PRESENT… I happened upon this site after realizing that the areas where they are missing fur are the areas I applied the hartz.
Now, the ONLY reason I believe these cats are not dead or Even worse off is because I SPLIT the dose between them… Yes, I split ONE TUBE for the both of them, as I HATE to use chemicals on my cats..
NOTWITHSTANDING my kitties are having a VERY hard time- especially the older one.
My theory is that ONE: The younger, lighter kitty drank alot of milk that had accidentally spilled onto the floor about 2 hours after I put the Hartz one spot on her.
Milk is often used immediately after accidental poisonings. My older, heavier cat did not drink the milk.
I have not bathed them yet as I just found the site, and will do so tonight.
I AM GOING TO ORDER FOR THEM BOTH A PET DETOX KIT WHICH I FOUND AT:
I am going to call them first to explain the situation, but, being familiar with human detox kits I think this may help the kitties tremendously. I am making sure to use a kit SPECIFICALLY designed for PETS ONLY.. Will report back the results, please, if anyone else has had or does have any luck with such, reply to my post.
I also just gave my older cat some yoghurt to coat her stomach and try and replace some of the naturally occuring flora which helps her digestive system…Healthy bacteria cultures in the yoghurt should help, and I am quite sure anything that was in her system has been killed off by the pesticides used by hartz.
THIS IS HORRIFYING and I hope Hartz is shut down for good sometime soon.
