Check this out, interesting.
Just wanting to update everyone on Splash. She is home but still not herself. We currently have her crated because the vet said to keep her isolated for a few days. One of her kittens went over to her crate and she hissed at her and then tried to take a swipe at her. Splash is one of those Mommy cats who makes sure her babies eat 1st before she does. This is very out of the ordinary behavior for her. We are waiting til follow up to see what the vet says.
My daughter Sarah got on the phone and started calling the National numbers for every pet store she could find to file complaints with them about the product.
We got a call from Hartz they went up one side of her and down the other for calling all the stores to complain. Would not let her get a word or ? in.
We also got on with Feline owners against Hartz and suggested that we do a quilt like the AIDS one to comemorate our furbabies and to draw media attention. So if anyone would like to add a pic of their baby surviving or otherwise please do so. Nick from FOAH has suggested an online quilt as well. Also if anyone lives near a Time Warner office they provide on air time to anyone for nearly any subject, this is a free service provided to the community. They will even show you how to produce a show, this would be a way to get the word out to individual communities. Perhaps if someone made a really good one it could be distributed to other TV stations.
I am contacting my elected officials as well this is an election year.
I tend to damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead once I get passionate about something. This is also my way of dealing with what has happened. I feel so bad about what has happened to Splash and the others that I want to make this happen now so no one else has to feel this way.
I grew up during the 60s and remember the power of protest. I’m hoping that some of that is still out there. This is a billion $ industry and we have a voice, a hugh one. I want to thank everyone who has emailed support and hope and prayers for Splash.
One month ago, I buried my cat, Casey after using Hartz products. I have not given up my fight against Hartz to have their products removed from store shelves. If you have not done so, please visit www.petitiononline.com/hartz/petition.html and sign the petition to have Hartz stop selling their poison. Also, please visit www.geocities.com/againsthartz.html, a site with dedicated people who all have had similar experiences with Hartz products and who are working hard to bring Hartz down!!!
The reason i am writing here at 3am is because I am staying up all night with my lil chow mix Symba who is 9 months after a horrible experience with Hartz Advanced care flea and tick drops. My beautiful Little girl Symba had recently had a few run ins with ticks so trying to solve the problem quickly at the same time as getting dinner at the supermarket picked up hartz drops feeling happy that i was going to solve this problem and be able to check off something on my to do list. My boyfriend applied it to her around 12am and went on studying and doing homework for class the next day, we are both college students at the University of Arizona and were getting ready to finish up the last of our homework and call it a night. We have 4 other dogs so it is easy to not always notice something going on but, as it was getting late all of them were lying on our bed letting us know it was time for bed, however Symba was no where to be found. My boyfriend found her under the desk in the guest bedroom and lying in a weird curled up position. She was unbelivably lethargic and for a puppy still was not her usual curious self. We were a little worried but figured she was just reacting to the medicine normally. However we were about to go to bed and she still had not moved so we gave her a slice of turkey. She looked out of it and would not take it from my boyfriend. If you know Symba you know she will never i mean NEVER resist turkey. I tried to give it to her and she finally took it. This behavior made me anxious so I checked yahoo.com for side effects list since none is listed on the box. I came across this website and thought it at first was just a website for the medication but soon learned that it was on the EXACT medicine i had just given Symba. i immediately freaked out and bathed symba in Dawn. I put her in the bath which she usually hates but she had to be carried by my boyfriend even into the bathroom. we placed her in the tub and she just layed down in it. Not caring at all that she was all wet and in the bath. Again not a normal reaction at all for our little Symba. We immediately rinsed it all out and we are now watching her. She was twitching a lot and looks at us like she is confused and out of it. We are basically “on call” until the morning our own version of Trauma ER. Do not enjoy it at all from the opposite perspective however. It was amazing to me how something that was put on not even three hours earlier made my lil girl that sick. I am fully against this product and will for sure petition against it. I am thinking of going to the supermarket it where i purchased it and let them know hopefully they will try to take it off the shelves. I am so thankful to the people who have left there stories so i could catch it before it was too late. Thanks again and I hope this helps someone like all of other people helped us. Let’s pray that Symba is okay through the night and back to her normal puppy self tomorrow.
I found a link through one of the previous posted stories to PETA whereupon I found this artice:
“Before the EPA can move forward with its latest animal-poisoning scheme, it needs approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Ironically, the EPA?s request comes in the wake of an OMB finding that the EPA?s pesticide registration and re-registration programs are not only ‘unable to demonstrate the effects they are having in areas such as improvements to human health, environmental protection, or efficiency,’ they are, in fact, among the EPA?s least effective programs!”
Please take a look at this article. I don’t know what to think of it.
I have informed the EPA of my incident with Hartz tick & flea treatment, and have naively been under the impression that they care.
Nevertheless I do not feel our efforts are futile; I will still do everything in my power to get these products off the shelves… and I urge you to do the same.
The day after I applied the Hartz 4-in-1 Flea & Tick drops to our cat Stormy, I found him crouched next to the front porch, shivering (or so i thought) even though it was warm out. I began watching him to see what was causing this, and realized something was very wrong. At first I thought he might have been scared by a bear or other wild animal, but he was not puffing his fur out at all. I picked him up and realized he was just shaking uncontrollably and seemed bewildered himself! I immediately called our vet and they said to bring him right in and they would see him on a triage basis (in order of greatest need). I mentioned that I had put the Hartz medicine on him the night before and they told me it was probably the culprit. I brought him in, and the vet said it was called “Hartz Toxicity” — they actually have a diagnosis named after Hartz!! I was shocked and disgusted at the thought that a large corporation would have such blatant disregard for the very people & pets who keep it in business. Stormy had to be washed vigorously and put on an IV to flush the poison out of his system. He stayed overnight and the next day he was back to his old self (the bill came to around $300, which seems to be the average cost of a Hartz poisoning treatment, judging by other letters on this site). Thank goodness he is ok and seems not to have any lingering problems. I put a call in to Hartz and I had to send all kinds of documentation and a signed diagnosis by the vet in order to have them “consider” reimbursing us. Now I can just wait and hope that they will make some effort to help now that they have done so much damage. Stormy is a very special cat — he came to us in a torrential rain storm one night a few years ago, bleeding and thin and neglected. He still has some scars from his old wild days, but he has become one of the sweetest, brightest cats I have ever known. He never hisses or scratches or growls! He just purrs and expresses love wherever he goes. I am so sorry he had to go through this. I hope Hartz will take this product off the shelves, so no one else has to suffer.
After hearing of this site and reading some of the tragic stroies. I am throwing out all of the Hartz prodcuts I have. I have used the shampoo on my german Shepard Ninja. But NEVER again. My dog is my baby and my pride and joy. I don’t know what I would do with out him. How can this company do this? Is money all that matters to them? My dog is my child, if anyhting ever happend to him i would do everything in my power to find out what caused it and why. Hartz should be removing all of thier products from store shelves and finding out why all these tragidies have happend.
Hartz should be ashamed of themselves!!
I am trying to get in contact with people in or around the Philadelphia area who have experienced Hartz on their pets. I did not know the dangers of this product; my 3 month old kitten is now in critical condition. I am disgusted by the stories I am hearing from this site alone and am ridden with guilt that I did not discover them sooner. My baby may die or be ill for the rest of her life at my expense and I cannot sit back and know that other people, like myself, who did not know, could be using this product on their precious ones as well. I want people to know what is going on. I want these stores (such as Rite Aid, where I went for my Hartz) to know what they are selling and take this poison off of their shelves so that people CAN’T purchase it. I am determined to do something about this, and I know people out there want to do the same but maybe don’t know where or how to start and I can’t do it on my own.

I purchased Hartz 4 in 1 flea drops at Petsmart on Monday to apply to my cats. I thought I was helping them because this would eliminate the traumatizing fleas bath for my cats. Much to my horror, it likely killed them. On Wednesday I heard my Persian crying and found him under a couch very still. My wife and I took him to the vet and found that it was going to cost between $800 and $1200 to try and save him. They showed us a laminated sheet that revealed how toxic this stuff was to cats. They said that it was very likely that he would not make it through the night. We had to make the tough decision to have him put to sleep since we could not afford the risky treatment. We came home to find my Himalayan dead under the other couch. We loved our cats. Whatever we can do to get the word out and save cats is what we want to do.
