He’s only 3 and he’s dying, I didn’t even put the drops on him.

Hello my name is Christine I’m from Hamburg New Jersey. I own 8 cats and two dogs. One of the cats Jon, unlike the other cats, really liked the dogs. He would play and sleep with this one dog at night and they are just best friends. I had no idea about what this flea product does. I had it only on the dogs and he kisses them and that was enough I guess. He’s still in the hospital, the night I took him he was trembling and crying. I don’t know if he’s going ot make it. If anyone can help , please all advice is more than welcome. I just don’t know where to begin to hold these killers at hartz responsible.

my e mail is [email protected] and my aim is misssarahamaya please don’t hesitate to comtact me if you need a friendly ear, or want to hear my sob about how worried I am about my cat Jon.

She almost died

Willow is a 2-year-old blue point Siamese. I recently moved from Colorado, where we don’t have flea problems, to the Tampa Florida area. I took my other cat Andy to the Vet and he was treated with Revolution but it cost close to $50 for 3 or 4 treatments so I decided to try and find it cheaper somewhere else. I ended up at Pet’s Mart and asked the Vet doing business there if they sold Revolution but was told no. I left the counter and went to buy shampoo for my cats. When I was picking the shampoo out I saw the Flea & Tick Advance Care treatment for cats. It had the blue caps for cats 10 lbs. and under. Its cost was so much less and I just thought it would be the same thing that Revolution was. I purchased the product, read the directions and used it as directed on Willow about 11:30 on Friday morning. I left the house for an hour and half and when I returned Willow was shaking her head and twitching her ears. I just thought the treatment smelled bad to her. Two hours later I was eating dinner and saw Willow run across the room shaking her head. She was starting to freak out. My other cat, Andy was acting really concerned. I realized Willow was in trouble. I put her in the shower to raise the treatment off. I lathered her up and held her under the water for 5 or 6 minutes. I toweled her off and left her in the bathroom. I was only gone a minute or two when I heard a noise in the bathroom. It was Willow running around in circles and shaking her head and her back legs were kicking rapidly. I called the Vet and she said bring her in. When I got her to the Vet her gums were blue and she was still twitching. The Vet bathed her again, put her on oxygen and gave her a shot but she wasn’t out of the woods yet. I had to transport her to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital so she could be watched all night and receive follow up treatment. The next night at 9:40 she was released from the hospital. She was glad to see me but still was twitching her ears some but nothing like she had been doing. The Vet said it might take several days before she would get the poison out of her system and stop the twitching. Its Sunday afternoon and Willow still doesn’t look like she is feeling right. She is still twitching. I spoke with the Manager at Pets Mart. He said they would pay for her Vet bill but said he wouldn’t take the produce that made her sick off the shelf. He said that the EPA said it was a safe product and until the EPA said different, they were going to leave it on. After the Manager left another employee of Pets Mart got me to the side and told me they were seeing lots of pets coming back in that were sick from the Hartz products. She said a dog had died from using BioSpot, which is also a Hartz product. She said she had been emailing Pets Mart Corporate Office trying to get them to take the products off the shelf but that they wouldn?t do it. She told me I was lucky Willow didn’t die. I decided to do something about it and wrote emails to all the television stations and major newspapers in the Tampa area and beyond about what had happen and asked them to do their own investigation and to please do a story to warn the public about the problems with the Hartz Products. That was on Saturday when Willow was still in the hospital. On Sunday I received a call from the local ABC Television Station. They told me about this web site as a result of their research. They asked me to go on camera and discuss what happen to Willow. They also want to talk to the Vets on camera that was involved with Willows case. So maybe we can get the word out to the public about this product. The newscaster who called me said she called Pets Mart Corporate office and the woman she spoke with said Pets Mart didn’t know anything about this problem but that?s not what I am hearing. I was shocked to find out the Emergency Vet Hospital had received 15 cases of this poisoning in the last week and that the County Poison Control Center was receiving lots of calls about the Hartz Flea Produce. I don’t know if I can make a difference but we will see. I filed consumer complaints against Pets Mart with the counties in and around Tampa and sent an email to the State Attorneys Office too. I also plan to write an email and start sending out to all my friends who I hope will forward it to all of their friend who will forward it to their friends and get the word out that way as well. You would think Hartz would pull the product off the market without us doing all of this but I have a feeling its all about money for Hartz and the stores that are carrying their dangerous produces.

Victim in Tennessee

I have an 11 month old kitten, Noodles who I gave Hartz Advanced care flea and tick drops. This poor little cat. The guilt that I feel due to applying this poison. I put the drops on her Thursday evening and Friday morning she could barely walk. She was lifting her front legs up really high as if to walk up a step, when no step was there. Her head was shaking when she tried to take a drink. Her entire little body just trembled. I grabbed her and took her to the vet. They knew exactly what the problem was. The fact that it is so easy to diagnose makes me mad. That means that so many cats are being affected that it is almost common place. She had to spend the night at the vets office. Luckily, she is responding to treatment. We were able to bring her home this morning. I just do not understand how a company as well known as Hartz, who we trust(not anymore) for our pets, can sell this poison? Can they be forced to pull this product from the shelves? If enough people complain can anything be done? I am contacting the EPA, ASPCA, PETA, local news, and of course the evil Hartz. In fact I have an even longer list. I am also contacting every vet office in Middle Tennessee to get a list of how many cats have been treated for this condition. I just hope that anyone considering using this poison checks out some web pages. That is the problem, no real way to pass the word along. At least not in a format readily available to every consumer. I am so mad and feel so guilty. Hartz must be stopped!!

Message: I have a strange problem with my black and white cat, he is fixed and is
between 3 and 4 years old. He all of a sudden has started pawing and humping the
couch or afghan and gets all glassy eyed and makes a weird meow, I also notice that
he has started growling and hissing at my boyfriend, he is playing not doing it in an
aggressive way, but I am at a loss. A friend said he could be a reaction from the
Advantage that I just started giving him, but I gave it to him last year with no
problem. Can you please give me some insight into why he is doing this, I don’t
really have the money to take him to a vet, oh also, he is an indoor cat. Thanks
for any help.

HartzVictims in NYC?

Message: I am a producer with CH 2 News in New York City. I am interested in
talking with any New York metropolitan area cat owners whose cats got sick after
they used Hartz Advanced Care Flea and Tick Once a Month Drops. Am interested in
problems that have occurred with the product after it was re-labeled to instruct
pet owners to apply just one spot on the back of the neck, rather than a strip of
spots as the label originally directed.

not another hartz story

Yes!It is another hartz story. When is it going to end.My poor cat Tiffany did get sick from this and I wish I knew about this stuff before hand. She lost her hair and her skin was so irritated from this stuff.I called my vet and he told me to bring her right in.Her eyes where dialated and she was shaking.I thought I was doing her good and I made her sick.Well hartz made her sick.I was sick with guilt. She would not eat and she cryed and rubbed herself on the walls because she was so irritated.I feed the poor thing by hand. Now she is back to her old self thank god.Hartz heard from me a few times and did not hear the last of me.I cant get over how they explain themselves on the phone. They get so many calls from this stuff it sounds like they have a written script in front of them.Does anyone know if there is another class action suit against them? This has to stop. Its just not fair!!!!!!!!

My poor Tazi

I am writing about Hartz flea and tick topical solution for cats. I put this on my cat Tazi Monday night. She started acting a little funny. I thought is was just because she didn’t like the way it smelled. The next morning she could not hardly walk and had horrible tremors. I rushed her to the vet where they treated her with iv fluids, injections and muscle relaxers. She got a bit better until tonight. She is losing her hair and is restless, twitchy and itchy. I now have to take her back to the vet. This product is dispicable!!! SHAME ON YOU HARTZ!!!

Hartz Luster Bath Allergic Reaction

My strictly indoor cats recently got fleas. I went to Wal-Mart to find something to offer relief until I got to my vet, and bougth Hartz Luster Bath. I used this product on my 1 year old cat, Jane (named after my deceased grandmother) as directed…Just rub in, wipe off. No bathing, no dipping. 2 hours later she started wheezing, sneezing and coughing. She wouldn’t look when calling her name, nothing. I tried to wipe it off with a damp wash rag and that offered no relief. I got online, and to me UTTER HORROR found all of these stories about Hartz flea medicine gone wrong. I immediately put her in the tub and thouroghly washed that POISON OFF. It is 12 hours later and she is breathing normally again. Thank God. The irony… this happened on the 5th anniversary of my grandma’s (for whom she was named after) passing. AND THE FLEAS ARE STILL ALIVE AND KICKING!!! I have placed posters at my local laundromat and supermarket warning pet owners of the dangers that this product and all Hartz products pose. More people need to be aware of this.

Itchy Cats

My cats itch so bad, i have 5, and 4 of the 5 are itchy misserable. I will never put that hartz stuff on them again, and Ill tell everyone i know. they are all headed for the tub now. Wish I had found this site before I put that stuff on them. Thanks for listning. DON’T PUT THIS STUFF ON YOUR CATS, ITS NOT WORTH IT……
